You shouldn't need a hard start relay for one just 5 years old. The compressor and complete sealed system is usually covered by a 5 year warranty. If you hear no click from the compressor starter relay you need to verify that you're getting power to it when you plug it in. You may just need to replace the starter relay and not the kit. If your starter looks or smells burnt or if it rattles when you shake it it's bad.
I would recommend that you leave it unplugged for several mins. If you can reach the compressor without too much work then I would carefully feel it to see if it is very hot or not. If it is leave it unplugged until it cools down then try it. When you plug it back in have the thermostat turned to high and it should try to start. If it does nothing I would replace the factory start capacitor then if it tries I would go to the hard start kit.If it does nothing I would look for a new fridge. Hope this helps you. Thanks.
If your unit has a seperate start capacitor it should be mounted close to the compressor. Trace the wiring going to your compressor. Ifyou have a seperate capacitor you will find it between the incoming power and the compressor. If you find it you will need to get the ratings off of it to match up for replacement. If you can't find it I would try the hard start kit as it will still be much less expensive then a new fridge or compressor.Thank you.

It does nothing after plugging in, no sound heat at compressor etc. How do you replace start capacitor?
