My car is making a clunking sound ever so often when I drive. My MOT certificate indicated that my macpherson struts had slight movement could these be the cause of the noise?

Individually push the back and front bumper near the fender with all your weight and let the vehicle snap back up. If the vehicle snaps back up and is not dampened causing the vehicle to bounce more than three times, or If you hear the bottoming out noise or a swish noise (gas leak in strut) when you push down, you need the struts replaced. If the vehicle pops back up once and no noise is heard the strut should be good. You may want to check the exhaust and muffler mounts to make sure the mounts are not broken, and the noise is from the exhaust hitting the under carriage. Struts are more difficult and dangerous to replace then shocks, so you want to make sure this is the problem before replacing them.

Struts noise?

I would tend to believe it's more likely a worn sway bar bushing or link if it's a rattle or a small clunk, if it's a loud clunk probably a strut, try bouncing he back of the car when parked, if you get the clunk probably a strut if only when driving, turning, braking probably just a bushing on the sway bar

Front end clunking sound

check the drop links they don't like bumps. fitted to the anti roll bar and the strut ( suspension strut ) change both side at same time. to check it is these grab it and pull about if it feels like its moving easy then replace. should be stiff and no movement when pulling. these make a clunking sound when they go.

I have a vy commodore that ive replaced the front struts in and new link pins but its making a clunking noise and keeps bending the link pins..a mechanic carried out the work...the struts i brought r

Commodore sounds like it might be Australian?? If it was my car I would be looking for worn out bushings that are allowing too much movement. Control or A arm bushings for a start, possibly new bushing kits for the struts. It could also be possible that mounting holes have been enlarged from use and those would make the problem more obvious. Any chance you may have bent the control arms while driving? Since you had a mechanic do the work it should be safe to assume that ball joints would be good but it wouldn't hurt to check them as well. The springs could be weak enough to allow extra travel or maybe you got the wrong struts. Hope this helps.

Hi my Hyundai Accent makes a clunk noise sometimes when going round a corner. It's not every time. Any ideas? It has just passed it's MOT last month and it wasn't doing it before the MOT.

If it makes a clunk-clunk-clunk sound while turning, it's your front CV joint that's bad. Check to see if the front CV rubber boot is ripped/torn, on either side of the car. The CV boots are located inside/behind the wheels, where the drive axle hooks up to the wheel. If damaged, you will probably have to replace the entire CV axle.

Popping sound from front end when braking

Can be several things. When you brake, the weight of the car shifts forward and every joint has movement. You can have bad ball joints, tierod ends, and strut bearings.

You need to go to a reliable front end alignment shop. Usually they give estimates. If you have noise you are close to having something come apart while you drive.

The brakes can make some noise but usually its a clunk or rattle or scrapping noise.

2002 clunking problm

Check the macpherson struts to ensure they are not loose.  One way to check is visually in the engine compartment.  Check the top of the struts to ensure the nuts are not loose.  Another is to raise the side of the van where you hear the clunk.  Raise it so the wheel is off the ground.  Grasp and shake the strut to see if it is loose.  The struts should not be loose, but you never know.  As the strut is certainly ivnolved in bumps and rotates when the wheel turns, I would check there since you have already explored the bushings and links.
