My first video, my daughter helped me with transferring the movie to the PC so that we could burn it on a DVD. She used the back up to PC method. At the time I did not have the DVD burner. after she did it, we could not find it anymore on the hard drive. However I did have some one at staples recover 1/2 that was on my computer. would the original be on the hard drive. I have not formatted the hard drive in case the film is ther.
Please advise if you think it should still be there or who I could go to to find out

Firstly, you should move the video to your PC, you must install the driver, copy-paste the files and so on. How do you want to transfer your video, only as data or as DVD movie ? If you only want to burn as data, you can use common DVD burner. But if you want to make your video as DVD movie, you need burner software that support burning into DVD movie. You can search and download free DVD maker via Google. This site is only an example to download the software: http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Multimedia_and_Graphics/Video_and_Animation_Tools/Movie_DVD_Maker.html
Assuming that you want to do your video work later (editing,DVD burning)in your PC.
1.Your PC must have video capture device(either built-in or add-on). 2.Properly set your video editing software to able to capture video form your device. 3.Connect your camera to your PC in regular manner, like when you connect it to your TV. 4.Have your camera in PLAYBACK mode.wind the tape to the beginning of the footage you want to capture. 5.Open your editing software.turn on capture mode. 6.Start capture. At the same time, start playing back the footage on the cam. 7.When all footage were captured, click stop capture. 8.Start your editing work. 9.when complete, save it to some uncompressed video format like *.avi for later burning to DVD or converting to other format.
For
beginners,I recommend Windows Movie Maker video editing software that
should come bundled in almost every computer. It's fast, simple but
effective enough for home-movie work.Once your project is completed, save your movie in original .avi format for later burning to DVD,etc.
BTW forget the old-school Linear Editing (on the tape) thing. It's slow, complicate and much less flexible than Non-Linear method.
Several steps are involved.
You will need a firewire or USB cord to connect your camera to your computer. You will need a video capture application on your PC. Macs come with this program, I-Movie. Once captured, the movies can be edited. Your PC will need a combination drive to burn a DVD from the captured material.
An easier way: Take your camera output and feed it directly into a DVD recorder. No editing, but it is a one-step process. I use both methods.
1. install the driver came with your camcorder(if you have the installer cd) or download it from thier website or thier support.
2. plug the usb or the cord came with your camcorder to your computer. it should be recognizing by your computer. now your ready to transfer it.
3. your computer should have a movie maker such as Ulead movie maker, Nero movie maker, Windows movie maker, etc.. installed on your computer. this applications will use as your transfer your videos.
4. after you detailed your video save it with any video types that you like such as avi, divx, dvd, vcd, etc...
5. now burn your videos with nero burning software and presto its on the disc now.
if you have further questions just ask me!
hope that helps! thanks for rating my post!
try to use USB to plug your device to your computer. make sure that you have an installed driver for your camcorder to recognize your device on your pc. all brand new camcorder came with an installation software cd. now your ready to transfer your video to your computer. use any movie maker application like ulead movie maker, nero movie maker or windows movie maker edit it and save it. burn it to your vcd or dvd burner to play on your dvd player. if you dont have a driver i will find one for you. hope that helps!
Well what i did was i got a ati video card that had built in video inputs (and it also had a tunner) plugged the camcorder up to it and recored what was on the camcorder on to the pc (ati came with a utility that made this possible). after the movie was on the PC i recored it to dvd with nero. I think you could also use movie maker that comes with windows xp
