No it is not a usual problem. If you have access to a multimeter, put it in the 2K Ohms range and touch the probes on the two pins of the power cord. It should show a reading between 800 - 1500 Ohms.If it does not show any reading , you could have burnt your standby transformer. Its the small transformer on the power supply board ( Back Left side near the power cord ).It will need replacement.

When I use my Apple TV 4 through my htr-5940 Yamaha using the AHLTV app I have intermittent sound and the receiver shows a CHECK SPKR WIRES message. HELP!!!

Hi Vicki Greenwood, so your Yamaha tells you, check that your speaker cables are not damaged or improperly connected
On the other hand, it controls the level of signal that is input from the Apple TV, it may be overmodulating
Take the tests and comment
Regards Franco Dosil

Saludos Franco Dosil

I have the Yamaha HTR-5940 and it has worked fine for years. Today turned on and there is no sound for the TV. Sound works fine for DVD, and radio. I have tried everything except toss it out the window....

did you connect the cables correctly most probably to get sounds out of a tv it should connected to the 3.5mm headphone jack.
you would need a Rca to 3.5mm cable for this

I was told i might have a fuse blown on my htr-5940,cause the 3 left speakers work for the test but not for actual playing.is that the problem?and where can i find the fuse?

There's no separate fuse for test versus operational speaker function.

Evaluate the source for why the "3 left" speakers (whatever that means) don't work for program material.

I have a rca no rtd250 impedance 12 ohms subwoofer. how do i connect it to my yamaha htr 5940.do i need a special cabel where do i get it.

The Yamaha can only drive powered subwoofers. Make sure that the RTD250 has it's own amplifier built in, you won't be able to easily run it off the yamaha if it doesn't.( the powered subwoofer will have a mains cord to power if it's correct) If it doesn't have a amp built in, easiest weay is to buy a cheap powered sub.
Is the RTD 250 the sub fromthe RCA home theatre pack?

Turns on then off.

It probably needs a set of output transistors, 2 pre-amp transistors and a 5.6v zener diode. Possibly a resistor or two. I've fixed many of these. Definitely a job for a pro.

I have the same problem as you but no thunderstorm. Mine happened after I connected speakers with the unit operating and had a speaker wire short at the back of the unit. Got a whiff of smoke and now I have that DSL1U unit clicking same as you. Did anyone suggest a fix?
