Normally this means that either your transmitter needs to be reprogrammed or you may have loose wiring. OR the alternative is that one of your sensors could be dirty or misalligned and you might not know it. Check the users manual and your door buttons to see if any wiring is faulty or loose. Most of the time it has to do with sensors. Holding button down is a manual bypass to force the door to go down. Something is telling it to stay up. Check your sensors. They can be easily moved, jarred, or knocked loose by accident.

Front passenger window only goes up. front passenger door switch or driver door switch only operate window up. all other windows fine.

if you make a fist and hit the door on the inside about the middle of the door card HARD while holding the button and it goes down -you have a bad regulator motor- if that doesn't do anything it may be the swicth in the passangers door but i really suspect the motor-cheers Denny

I have a 1/2 hp craftsman door opener. Model 41A4315-7d. Door goes up fine. Will only go down a foot. It is not the door sensors as they are both lit up and sensing fine (I've even tried disconnecting...

Probably not. try turning the tension adjusted up little more. its most likely a bind in the mechanical part of the system. if the arm coming from the chain guide is bent that could also trigger the tension limiter.

Opener works fine buti have to hold button down until door shuts compltly no remote but door bell style button going into house thanks

Check your door sensors to make sure they are properly pointed at one another and that the small light on each one is lit and not flickering. Tweak them a bit. If you can't get both lights to come on you have bad sensors.

Garrage door opener ability to close the garrage door

HOLDING DOWN THE WALL BUTTON OVERRIDES THE SAFETY EYES.
WHEN HOLDING IT DOWN MAKES THE DOOR CLOSE PROPERLY THE PROBLEM IS IN THE SAFETY EYES.

ARE BOTH LEDS ON? - CHECK FOR A LOOSE OR BROKEN WIRE.
ARE THE EYES WIRED CORRECTLY?
ARE THEY AIMED AT EACH OTHER?

Door will not go down

Use a piece of wire to bypass the sensors. if door still goes down and then reverses, you may need to adjust the torque (down pressure) for the door.

Any questions, let me know

Have to hold the button untill door is all the way down

The sensors are required as a part of a safety system. If they are not installed, then the down function can be overridden by holding the button down. Holding it down assumes you are watching the door and no one will be trapped underneath it.

Buy and install sensors, and the door will work correctly.

Door ups and downs

Holding the button down just bypasses the sensors.
Your sensors are not adjusting correctly, or there is a short in the wires.
The back of the machine has a little yellow light, count the flashes and corelate it to the troubleshooting portion of the manual to confirm.

The orange light is a constant, the green sensor needs to be adjusted until you get a solid green light.
