I bought a john deere riding mower less than a year ago. i used it last season without any problems. I think the last time i used it, was in august 2010. winter came about, the grass wasn't growing, so i didn't use it. didnt drain the gas in the tank. Two weeks ago i added more gas to the gas that was already in the tank. it didn't start. a few days later i tried starting it and it did start. yesterday i started mowing the lawn and about 20 min into the chore, it turned off as if it had run out of gas. i couldn't start it up again. this morning i attempted to start it, and it started without any problems. what's going on? i'd appreciate any help.

First, I've had a motorcycle for almost 50 years and have never drained the gas. At one point it was not used for 3 years. It started, I added gas and it ran fine.
Second, next time you are running the machine and it begins to stall, immediately loosen the gas cap. If it starts to run good again, drill out the air vents on the cap.

I bought 135A used without the owners manual. He told me I need to greese it, maybe each time I use it. Please help me get a free owner's manual so I don't ruin this machine. I paid 950$ for it.

The only thing that would probably need greasing are the spindles on the front wheels. There should be grease (zerk) fittings on the outside of the wheel axles inside the wheel itself. Not greasing them won't kill your mower. Of course, the manual has ALL the lubrication points listed in a chart in it.
John Deere makes it a little challenging to get a manual, but you have the specs and here is the link. I think you can order a paper version , but this link is to download an electronic version for free. The printed version will cost you.

Hi, remove the battery and battery support tray and clean all debris from around the hydrostatic drive, fan and cooling fins. Your problem is caused by the hydrostatic drive overheating. Hope this helps, regards Phil

You are one of the unfortunate ones who purchased the John Deere BRANDED push mower.Deere's upper managment decided to use a lesser quality mower made by someone else and slap their logos on it,all to save some $.In all my years with Deere I have never seen so many pushers come back for warranty work.Look on the net and you will find your exact mower a different color for 40% less.

How do I find the model or year on 38" John Deere with no hood?

A ten year old mower that probably cost about $1500.00 at least twn years ago that has not been taken care of is not worth much.

John Deere is a good name as in Kohler. How much is it worth? It is currently worth what you paid for it, you just made it worth that much.
