Unplug your ipod anyway & hope you don't lose data.

For it to recongnize, maybe try:
1: go to control panel
2:add hardware
3:connect your hardware device and click "yes i have connected the hardware"
4:scroll down and select install new hardware device
5:select install hardware that i manually select from a list
6:scroll down to windows portable devices
7:and choose MTP device
this should make it so your ipod is now recognised by the computer

My 30gb ipod is locked

restore your ipod, it will solve the problem.
Here is the REAL solution. Ending ipodservice.exe will NOT WORK.

1) Plug your ipod into the computer using firewire or USB.
2) Open MY COMPUTER
3) Wait until the ipod shows up as a drive letter
4) Right click on the ipod drive letter and do a ' quick format ' (Now the ipod is just a plain windows hard drive)
5) When it is complete, run the ipod updater and do a Restore. This puts the ipod software back onto it
6) Remove the ipod from the usb or firewire port, plug it into the wall power supply and allow it to finish the update

If I've helped one person, then I'm happy.

Hi,
If your computer is recognising other ipods and not yours there is a possibility of somethin being wrong with your ipod. You can always get it replaced.Or else maybe you should check the USB cable you are using to conect.
Finally try your ipod on another computer.
This oughta help you arrive at a conclusion.
