I've borrowed a Silver 302 from my neighbour, and after a few hours use, it's started squeaking. Loudly. I don't know if this model needs oiling or not, and if not, what it may need doing to it - just know I don't want to return it running like an old barn door! Help?

I'm not familar with this machine but will make some general suggestions. I did google it and found a 502 http://www.silverviscount.co.uk/shop/product_info.php?cPath=21&products_id=40 it looks like a economy front loading bobbin machine.

If you manually turn the fly wheel to form the stitiches and listen carefully can you hear a popping as the needle enters the fabric? If yes, its a needle problem. All machines need a new needle for each sewing project, 4-6 hours sewing time, before they go blunt. Cchange the needle for a new one in the right size for what you are sewing (ballpoint for knits, sharp for wovens). Refer to www.sewing.about.com for good general info on machine maintenance, needle sizes and types and threading diagrams, its a wealth of information.

If its not a needle issue then I would suggest that you open up the front flap, remove the bobbin holder, needle and pressure foot and clean out the race area with a small brush, then again manually turn the fly wheel and add a little drop of good quality machine oil to anywhere where you can see metal moving against metal and see if this quietens down the squeaking. Don't use 3-in-1 oil.

You could also ask the neighbour for the manual and check out if it does have oiling points to try and eliminate this as a cause.

Hope this helps a little.

My Tuffy Lock serger is squeaking and slow to start sewing. I think the belt needs oiling and I don't know where to oil it. Anyone know?

The belt should NOT be oiled. However, the metal moving parts would benefit from oiling--my preferred lube is Tri-Flow Synthetic Lube from the hardware store.

I've borrowed a memorycraft 300e from a friend. I've used it without incident for a few days but suddenly without any issues now whenever I turn the machine on I get an error message

Did you check the needle down button. Be honest and return it. Price one and wonder why you borrowed something so expensive. She may know what to do. But dont tinker or try to fix it. It seems like a fixable error. You probably afraid to tell her. But you stressing yourself out. If you borrow it you probably know a cheap embroidery machine is about $500. Just get it back and maybe she won't snap its probably something simple.

The baby lock BL8800 is squeaking

More than likely you will need to get to base, it usually comes right off after taking screws out, just oil freely don't be scared to really get in there because it's all mechanical and will not harm anything, just use really good gear/metal oil

It squeaks when u sew. i need to know where to oil it at

Squeaking or popping sounds could be a blunt needle so make sure you change it regularly, 4-6 hours sewing time is rule of thumb.

To find where to oil this machine download the manual from http://www.singerco.com/accessories/manuals.html, just type in your model number into the search field and click 'Search', most of the manuals are there as a downloadable pdf file.

The manual will show oiling points for your machine. Use sewing machine (clear) oil only, a little drop only but oil and clean regularly to get the best performance. Brush out any lint and dust first (don't use compressed air to blow a machine out, much better to brush out carefully with a little brush and remove the lint from the machine).

You can also put a drop of oil onto a piece of waste fabric then rub this up and down the needle bar (the metal part that goes up and down holding the needle) to keep this clean and lubricated.

My embroidery unit on the Rose squeaks loudly when in use. Can I oil it? Does it need servicing?

Typically does not need oiling but if you do, use Tri-Flow oil available from most bicycle shops. But it would highly recommend you take it for service at an authorized Husqvarna Viking service technician. You can locate a dealer near you by visiting the husqvarna viking website and clicking on the Dealer link on the left-hand side of the page - http://www.husqvarnaviking.com

Good luck.
