SOURCE: Scooter is about 6 years old. Light to medium use

ahs could be the brushes they are pretty easy to check. On the rear of the motor should be 2 access screw covers carefully remove them and slowly remove each brush. if they are worn more than halfway I would replace them. Now I have seen your problem caused by dirty or worn speed pot. The speed control pot is fairly inexpensive to buy and easy to replace. If you have an ohm meter you can ohm it out checking for erratic meter movement as you slowly turn the knob. you should get a smooth increase or decrease in the meter as you turn the pot up or down. Hope this helps you

How to tell if brushes on rascalmob. 388xl need replaced as scooter running slow?

The motor will run hot when the brushes are worn. If the scooter is used daily and runs a lot, brushes could be the problem. They are not difficult to replace.

I compare it to a gas motor with a miss.

Could be your carbon brushes. Really easy job to check. The brushes are located inside the motor housing and are covered by 2 or 4 black caps depending on your scooter model. You simply undo the caps and remove the Brush. Check that there is plenty of carbon material left and that the spring and contact are in good condition and that the Brush slides freely through the housing. Sometimes a sticking brush or bad contact can cause power fluctuations..... Let me know how you get on.

What makes a 24volt 450 watt DC motor overheat and smoke

hi, worn brushes , no unless they arcing on the motor, chipped brushes once again if they touching at a point yes they could arcing and result of that smoke, however i believe your motor could be breaking down, resistance wise , hence the fact it getting too hot because a resistance is building up in the windings,, another situation could be the controller could be burning out the motor....

check the resistance of the motor by disconnecting it and use a smart meter or electrical meter to a take the lowest ohm reading , what is it ??

Rally scooter parts

The click sound is likely the electric brake releasing. If the brake is working and the scooter wont roll, then you engage it and you can push the scooter then you have a motor or motor wiring problem.
The Pride Rally is an older model whose electronics do not verify the motor is working prior to allowing the scooter to start. Please disconnect the motor wiring and check the motor's electrical resistance. It should read less than 3 ohms on a meter. If it doesn't, pull, clean and or replace the motor brushes if its a serviceable unit. If not - you may need a new motor - especially if the reading of the motor winding is over 3 ohms.

Old Zippy electric scooter has little power and dies after about 20minutes. Batteries have been checked by an "expert" and passed OK. Can see no excessive current drain.

Well Richard I guess there's nothing wrong if the expert said the batteries were good. Could be in need of brushes on the motor. There should be caps over the brushes that can be removed to check the brushes. If they have excessive wear say 3/8 inches long or less then they need to be replaced. But my first fix would be to replace the batteries, give them a good charge before use and see if that increases your drive time. Of course replacing worn brushes can't hurt either. Good luck hope this helps

Where can i buy replacement carbon brushes for auriga 10 invacare scooter (6 mph model)

Since these are special made electric motors, you are going to have to go back to the dealer that sold you the machine and have them order the parts (brushes) for you. The PDF file for these scooters are found at:

http://www.invacare.co.nz/***/content/328/349/auriga-spare-parts-june2010.pdf

page 6 will give you the parts number.

If you are mechanically handy(I suppose so as you intend to replace brushes), then you may want to try a maintenance trick first of all. Generally these brushes are are not used up in a DC motor, but fail due to the carbon build up on the armanture of the motor shaft or the wear of the brushes have become so concave that they are making only slight contact on the armanture. If you can, pull the end off of the motor and lightly clean the armanture contact. Clean with some alcohol. Then examine the concave of the brushes, and using an emery board file the points of the arc in the brushes so that you change the deepness of the arc, bringing the center closer to the contact. re-assemble and test.

Needs a check up

Check the brushes in the motors to make sure they are not sticking or the brush caps are not loose. Also check all connections from joystick to controler box to motors. Also check battery connections are not loose. Get it serviced.
