Hi! I've replaced my old stylus on a technics sl 20 (EPS 270 ED) by a tonar 757-DE elliptical, as it was recommended. The result is disappointing. The lows seem right, but the middle and higher range is very distorted. I use a Yamaha amplifier. What could be wrong?

If you mid and hi's are distorted you are having tracking issues after replacing the stylus.
Three important thing to note is vertical tracking angle , azimuth and tracking weight.Did you struggle with the tone arm while replacing the stylus ?.You could have disturbed all these.
1) Any way check if the tone arm is parallel to the record when its playing. Look from the side of the turntable. If you see any difference put back the old stylus and check.
2) View the cartridge from the front, it should be perpendicular to the record. If you have a small mirror place it on the platter and drop the needle on it ( with the players power OFF ) .The reflection should be perfectly perpendicular to the object.
3) Try adjusting the tracking weight by turning the counter weight at the back of the arm. You might have to increase the weight to allow better tracking

You definitely want to make sure that your new cartridge is properly aligned for your turntable. This web site can help:
http://www.audiophilia.com/features/cartridge_setup.htm
If you don't feel that you are able to get it properly aligned by yourself, a local dealer should be able to help you with this for a small fee.

Testimonial: "Together with the second advice I found the problem. Thanks a lot for your help!"

How do I connect Technics SL PD7 to Technics SA-DX750?

Hi Anonymous, you have two ways to connect the Technics SL PD7 CD player to the Technics SA-DX750
The first is through a fiber optic cable, from the Digital Optical output of the SL-PD7, to Optical Input 1 or Optical Input 2
The other alternative is to use a 2 RCA to 2 RCA cable and connect them between the L and R outputs of the SL-PD7 to the CD L and R inputs on the SA-DX750
I hope you can interconnect the equipment
Regards Franco Dosil

Need a needle for a TECHNIC SL-3350

It's 'TechnicS' and 'stylus'. Wouldn't a web search have been faster?

"TECHNIC SL-3350 stylus"

But even 'technic" and 'needle' would have worked.

New cartridge for Technics SL -BD22D

the prestige gold might be a little bit of overkill for this turntable meaning the turntable is middle of the road and the cartridge is hi-end.

To get a closer match for your TT try a yahoo search for "AT3482P-DE" (with the quotes) and the result will be the closest match to what this turntable is designed for. also you can find your TT's owner manual here
http://www.vinylengine.com/library/technics/sl-bd22d.shtml but you will have to register to download the free manual. in that manual you will find the shape of the drawings for the cartridge is the same. both made by audio technica

One channel vocals drop out

yes, it is very likely the stylus. the stock needle is conical shaped like a ball point pen. You might have a tonearm that is out of alignment but usually it's the needle. It is possible it is just dust on the tip but if it occurrs in consistent areas of the record, then it is likely that the music is just too demanding for the LP2D you will either have to use your old technics which is likely better quality or you could try upgrading the stylus on your LP2D.
If you do a yahoo search for "4-211-DE-GUARD" with the quotes, the 1st result will take you to an elliptical upgrade over the stock needle. The elliptical tip will pull more info out of the grooves and into your computer for further processing.
