My keyboard sounds off when I turn it on, but it does not make any sound when I hit the keys. Possibly it was damaged when the cat jumped on it.

I suspect that a NOTE or other selection button is "stuck", if not physically, then electrically.

the startup of most of these devices scans the keyboard and control panel to insure all user inputs from them are at rest. When it sees one stuck, then sometimes the system hangs.

Yamaha YPT 400: ALL re are not working

Hi, If by "re" not working you mean note D then try the following.
Keyboard off, hold down top C key while turning on. This factory resets. Does D key now work - if not. Has it ever worked - if not then it could possibly be the ribbon connector between the keyboard and the motherboard. If one of the cables gets bent then this would stop all notes associated with that connection to stop working. This will only have occured if the keyboard has never played these notes or if it has been taken apart.

You could also try the self test mode : Keyboard off, hold C#,F, G# in the 2nd octave up whilst turning on, cycle through tests to sound if it plays all the notes one at a time then the sound chip is ok and it points to keyboard switching. If test mode does not come up in 2nd octave try 3rd octave ( cant remember which one it is from memory )

Let me know how you get on.

Casio privia px350. My dp started to have mechanical stronger noises when pressing down the keys affected seem wobbly and seem to hit something as if moving sideways slightly. Only tapping the key...

The Previa key construction was a lot better than yamaha\'s, however it still suffered the normal casualties caused by even the slightest \'knock\'. Believe it or not, most damages are caused to DPs when you\'re NOT playing it. For example, transporting - setting up - packing down etc. I used to market Roland and Casio DPs for a number of years. And the most common problem was the \'stuck key\' syndrome (as well as dust on the contacts). I bought it down to the way people, children, adults actually SIT down to the piano to play. Instead of using the piano stool to balance themselves, many people place their hands on the KEYBOARD before they plant !!! NO NO NO :/ That is the prime reason there are key breakages in - pretty much the same place. Children are a classic example when they sit at a piano. They use the keyboard to leverage themselves UP. Because the DP is not on, it doesn\'t make a sound - therefore "it can\'t POSSIBLY my child\'s fault!!" Oh yeah...have your darling angel sit at an acoustic piano and they\'ll be playing 12th Street Rag before they even get their on the seat!!!

Long and short, possibly broken band, slipped hammer - or broken. Here\'s a video which explains how you might be able to fix the problem yourself. Not much to it really...just take your time and don\'t force anything

Sometimes the middle C sounds like if it was hit very hard even when its not the case

The key contacts are dirty. These contacts are conductive rubber "pills" (black) in silicone rubber domes. There are TWO per key and when you press a key, one hits first then the second. The time between this is measured by the processor and generates a "velocity" number which controls the loudness as would a real piano being sensitive to the rate/speed which you hit a key.

Unit has to be dis-assembled and the keys taken off and the contacts AND the CIRCUIT BOARD TRACES they press onto using ONLY 99% isoprophyl alcohol and Q TIps. Do ALL the contacts while you have it apart. Be VERY careful to not damage the ribbon cables tying the top of the case to the bottom AND document which screws go where as there are usually several different threads and lengths..

I have a 6 month old keyboard and have found that middle octave A and lower octave note C are sounding really off when played together. What could be the problem? The store where I purchased it has...

Thisis hard to troubleshoot... The keyboard insynths are usually scanned as a matrix... If a disconnect diode has failed, then wrong notes can be triggered. There is USUALLY rows of the diodes on the circuit board where the keys hit. There are usually TWO contacts per key in order to sense key velocity. The lkey contacts are usually conductive rubber pills pressed against circuit traces under the keys. One sometimes needs to clean these contacts using 99% isoprophyl alcohol and Q tips.
I would do further testing of ALL combinations of notes played together to see if possibly any others show up as that could point to a particular failure.

When striking 3 keys key nomber;11 b flat;13 c;15 d,the volume is very high in level with all others.is there any way i can repair or overcome this. this is in full keyboard mode thank you

Is it a dynamics sensing keyboard (does it sound soft when you play softly and loud when you hit the keys hard)?

If so, you need to clean the double contact under those keys that sound too loud (if contacts are dirty, the key might either not work at all or it may loose the ability to sense how hard you hit it and will work at full volume).

You'l probably need to disassemble the unit and remove the keyboard to be able to remove the keys that don't work well, after you've done so, you need to clean the lower (under) side of the double rubber button which is struck by the key when you hit it, also be sure to clean the contact tabs on the circuit board undereath the rubber pad (you can use ethyl or isopropyl alcohol and "cotton sticks").

This should do the trick if the contacts are dirty, but it may have no effect if they are damaged or worn out (in such case you would have to replace the rubber pad for that particular key).

No Sound

You didn't give any specifics. Possibly it is just broken due to a loose cable to the keyboard (which you could look inside and check) or a burned out semiconductor (harder to check).

If it is a MIDI keyboard, usually symptoms like this are due to a "MIDI Channel ID" problem. It is sending the keyboard on one MIDI channel and whatever is producing the sound is listening on another. For this sort of thing, you can substitute devices to narrow down the problem or try to reset everything, removing all the batteries, if any, and checking the manuals or website for reset instructions. Of course, you may lose stored settings that way.

Psr e303 yamaha double sounds

Do you cover the keyboard when not in use as small particles of dust can make their way in between the keys?

You can try blowing any obstruction out with a can of compressed air, may solve your problem.

As I'm not familiar with this Model, does the keyboard have 'touch response' on board? If so there will probably be a 'Contact' strip made out of tubular rubber under the keys and this can sometimes 'burst' especially on a certain key that is played most of the time. For example if you play mostly in the key of 'G' or keys that use that note....

Hope you find this helpful......
