Question about Maxtor Personal Storage 3200 (U01E200) 200 GB Hard Drive
The only way to get this to work would be trying a program such as R-Studio. There are two types of problems with hard drives that come into the situation. These are Physical and Logical. Physical issues are: mis aligned heads, pcb problems, electronics issues , damaged platters. The logical issues are, partition tables bad, corrupt system area, bad sectors etc.
What your describe may be a need to reboot your computer first (with the external off.) then plug it in and try again. If the drive fails to recognize, you could use a LOGICAL recovery tool like the R-studio to see if it will read. If that does fail, the issue is beyond something you could resolve yourself. It may still remain a logical issue, but when issues involve the system area of a drive; it passes the line between do it yourself; and send it to a data recovery company. Most logical repairs can be done for $300 or less. Hope that helps. Please leave positive and quantative feedback for my answer.
