You can do this one of two ways. Either you can set a universal "Notification Tone" for your phone with the desired song, or you can set a specific notification tone for your particular messaging app.
To set a universal tone (which will play when messages arrive, and for calendar events and other "notification" type events), do this:
- Go to your App Drawer and tap Settings
- Tap "Sound"
- Tap "Notification Ringtone" and select the song you want. If the song doesn't appear in your list, download RingDroid and use it to save the tone as a Notification tone. Basically, you'll just open the sound in RingDroid, tap the menu key and then save it as a notification tone.
If you only want the sound for a particular app, like the default messaging app, you'll need to open that app, tap the menu key, access the Settings menu and look for something like "Notification settings." In the default messaging app, the option is at the bottom of the Settings screen, and you tap "Select ringtone" to choose the sound you want to play when a message arrives.
