I had similar problem with my panasonic tv, turned out to be a fan failure causing power supply to shut down due to overheating, Also could be a capacitor fault in the power supply.

Likely damage to main power supply-------try to see if there is a specific number of blinks then a pause and repeats like 7 blinks a pause and repeats---that is an error code if there---with it AND THE MODEL NUMBER OF THE TV I might be able or not to help.

KV-36XBR400 won't turn on, "standby/stero" light

You are correct. You are right about the power supply and replacing with led hdtv. You will be happy with a Samsung led. Time to upgrade.

My tv is blinking 7 times repeatedly. (The red standby light) What does this idicate and what can be tried before I take it to a repair store?

The blinking standby LED usually is an error code - indicating possible overcurrent protection mode. It can be either a short-circuit in the power supply, the HT rail, or the horizontal output transistor(s) could be shorted along with the flyback transformer. Or it could be a combination of all of the above.

Assuming this is a model with a CRT, I doubt it would be the 'bulb' - it would most likely be a circuit failure. Check the flyback transformer, the horizontal transistors and the tuning capacitors in their collector circuit - one may be shot.

Check the power supply and HT thoroughly for shorts and open circuit components - burn marks on the board, dry solder joints etc. Look for obvious things first.

Once you are satisfied that one or more parts have shorted, and you don't wish to replace them yourself, submit the TV to a repair store and insist on a FREE quote - this way, you can then decide if you want to pay that estimate to fix it or not.

50 " Phillips Plasma tv. Screen is black, blinking red light.

Sounds more like blown/exploding capacitors on the PSB-Power Supply board. No OSD-on screen display a blinking led or chatter/relay clikcing at startup is the tv going into fault protection and bypassing the startup pins. The YSUS-Main controls the pic which is attached to 2 buffer boards the YBU-upper YBL-Lower. They control the upper and lower portion of the OSD and the YSUS controls both of them. Since you're getting No OSD you need to check for blown caps on the PSB first. Unplugging the set resets the error again. So you start all over again.

6 red blinking lights

6 lights according to the service manual is: LOW B ERROR B_12v IS NOT SUPPLIED (GT BOARD)

Check the connections to the boards, and if nothing seems obvious, you may need a repair person to replace this board...

HP Compaq d530

it all depends on the number of flashes , pause, repeat.
Since the problem did not indicate any beeps her is the following info

Power LED blinks RED 2 times, one every second, followed by a
2-second pause. = Processor Thermal Protection Activated

3 blinks 1 second apart = Processor not installed (not an indicator for a bad processor).

4 blinks 1 second apart .= Power Failure (power supply is overloaded)

Other possibilities are:
5 blinks 1 second apart No memory
6 blinks 1 second apart No graphics
7 blinks 1 second apart System board failure (detected prior to video)
8 blinks 1 second apart Invalid ROM
