SOURCE: TV picture scrambled and getting worse

This can be a fault in the tuner, IF, or primary part of the video processing. With age and use some of the parts, and especialy capacitors, in these sets can become thermo sensitive and unstable.

To service these types of faults can be very time consuming. On top of this would be the cost of the parts.

Considering the age and type of set that you have, I would suggest that it is time to be looking for a new set.

SOURCE: Toshiba 46In HD Rear projection TV Vertical lines on screen

We also have vertical lines with our JVC 62"... turning it off and letting it cool down is the only solution. For us, we know it's a problem with heat. We simply are wits end on fixing it. added two additional fans, a exterior fan to blow heat away from the back of the tv, pulled everything else away, etc.... Anyway, goodluck.

The hyper module itself is not an expensive repair about $70 to $100.00 dollars. The tech will simply be replacing about a dozen 16v/10mf smd caps and re-installing it on the signal board. But that doesn't address what he has to do to get to it and get the hyper board off and back on the signal board and that is a bit time consuming.
What I would suggest is to call around to the various shops and ask what they charge for the hyper module repair and see if you can get an off the cuff estimate for around $250.00 dollars.
If you need help finding some reputable shops try TVrepairpros.com for help in finding some of the best technicians available.

Look for loose connections in the power supply (plug, socket).

My TV is about 9 yrs. old. Lately, it seems to need to "warm up". The picture looks jagged or jumpy when first turned on, but improves after a few minutes. Can this be fixed?

This problem stems from defective surface mount capacitors on the "hyper module" (which is no longer available as a part). The capacitors can be replaced by a technican with good soldering skills however and is accompolished by using 105 degree type PC style or 10 uF/16 volt SMD caps. All 11 of them must be changed for a lasting repair. They are at locations: CX 178,221,230,241,250,261,270,514,541,670 and C5030.

TOSHIBA 57H82 TV Blurry for 15 minutes till warms up

This is a model first sold 2002.

They have a history of the Hyper board failing. Usually noise or lines in the picture and the warmup time gradually gets longer and longer.

This board processes all signal from all inputs inside the set and is no longer available from Toshiba.

The only way to get one is from a national company called PTS Electronics who rebuilds or repairs them--cost for rebuilt board is about 220 plus shipping and part number for this model is:
Part Number23148024

I have a service bulletin with photos of the board on my computer.

It is a financial decision, not a job for the average do it yourself person to attempt.

My Toshiba cinema series HD separates the red & blue color.

The most likely cause is shorted convergence chips and possibly a few pico fuses.

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get a convergenece repair kit with instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2
Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

You can see some more examples and find a fix herebb0cf99.pnghttp://www.fixya.com/support/r2861467-solution_video_looking_whiteish_dull

Our tv is 10 years old toshiba cinema series it has blue and red

It will be 11 years next month that I've had my Toshiba 55H55 Cinema Series and have the same problem every now and then, if you haven't already done so, go to the picture settings and scrolling down to conversion and it will take you through 3 steps of adjustments, there is a white cross in the middle of the screen line up the red first and then the blue, it will then take you to a screen with numbers, ID the clearest number and exit out, you should have a clear picture again. I hope this helps.
