How do I reset the parental control password on a govideo dvd player?

Please follow the instuctions below to reset the password and switch off the parental control on the Zenith DBV412.

1. Switch on the TV and DVD player
2. Switch the TV to the input for the DVD player
3. Remove any disc from the player
4. Press the SETUP key on the Zenith remote to open the on-screen menu
5. Press 2 1 0 4 9 9 using the numerical keys on the Zenith remote.
6. Press SETUP again to close the menu

This will clear any password that has been set. Now you need to switch off the parental control:

8. Press the SETUP key to open the on-screen menu again
9. Use the down arrow to highlight the PADLOCK for the parental control settings
10. Press the RIGHT arrow once to enter the parental control menu
11. Highlight RATING and press the RIGHT arrow once.

You will be asked to set a password. Enter something simple and easy to remember, e.g. 0000 then press ENTER. You will need to confirm the password by entering the same number again, then press enter again.

12. Use the UP/DOWN arrows to highlight UNLOCK then press ENTER
13. Press SETUP again to close the menu

You should now be able to insert your Across the Universe disc and play it. If you are still unable to watch the disc or you are unable to switch off the parental control feature, please let me know.

Best I can offer is the factory code of 8-8-8-8, if someone else hasn't changed it already.

By parental control I don't know if you mean child lock. If that's the case you should be able to turn it off by pressing child lock on the remote control until off shows in the display window.

I don't know the answer directly, but I do have a couple of suggestions:

1) Go to this site and download the entire manual. The manual contains directions for resetting the code:

This site requires you to create an account to download the manual, but it is free and only takes a minute.

2) As a truly last resort, if you have a bit of time on your hands, enter the possible codes sequentially until you hit the right one. Seems like a lot, but from experience on most of these you can enter 6-10 a minute without trying very hard, so if you had to enter every code (statistically almost impossible) it would take you 16-20 hours. I'd actually make a short list of likely codes first (0000,1111,2222, 1234, family birth-dates, last 4 digits of phone numbers, street numbers, etc. from the family that owned it before; it's almost unknown that a truly random number is used, since no one can remember it!). I know from experience that it can be done, but I'd try the manual first!

use password 3308 to change the parental control to 7, and the movie will run

need password reset...also, forgotten how to enter password...MODEL NUMBER IS PDV-228...PLEASE HELP!!!

do you have the parental controls turned on in the dvd player for viewing preffrences .age, restrictions ,other .

Hey Aurora, After you put your password in, go back and change the password using blanks spaces. Then it should reset to 'parental control off'. Let me know if this works. Some Sanyo models are different to reset.
