To subtract 15% from something, what I do is take the price of the item (let's say it costs $100), then multiply it by 0.15 (which is equivalent to 15%). 100 x 0.15 gives you 15. Then, you'd take that number (15) and subtract it from the $100 to get $85, which is 15% off of $100.

    tks for trying but this cannon is supposed to substract 10 15 or whatever percentage by pressing tax- once you especify the percentage.
    The way you say is the way I have been doing it all my life but this calculator offers a one touch calculation that does not work on a brand new unit.

Why won't my calculator add or substract?

It looks like it may have adding machine logic.

Do this key sequence:

5 + 5+ 6-. Is the answer 4?

Each number you enter is positive or negative and it is just keeping a running total, rather than adding and subtracting numbers.

Let me know if this helps.

Good luck.

With a typical line set, how much R-22 should a ckl30-1 2.5 ton a/c need?

the refrigeranterant charge is stamped on the unit data plate in ounces of freon. take this number and multiply it by 16 and get the pounds and the decimal point will need to be converted back to ounces. example 138 ounces equals 8.625 lbs of freon which is about 8 lbs and 8 0r 9 ounces. this is for a 15 foot lineset. measure your lineset and substract 15 , then take this number and add .6 per foot. .6 ounces of freon per foot of refrigerant line over 15 feet. you will have to use a quality digital scale to weigh in this total charge

When I ad or substract it always comes up 0 , for istance 234.40. How can I correct this problem whereas it comes to the correct change amount insteas of all 0's.

The processor ic is breaking down and overtime will get worse until the calculator becomes unusable, there is no cost effective way to service this instrument, you are further ahead replacing it.

4x+3y=6 how do you solve for y

Hello,
I am not lecturing you but I would rather you understand how to do the manipulations involved in isolating a variable.
You want to isolate y, Ok
Start stripping it of all that is not y.

3y + 4x =6. (Addition is commutative, I can change the order of addition)
The term with y is added to 4x. If I want the term in y alone on one side I perform the inverse operation of addition, a substraction. I subtract 4x from both sides.
3y+4x-4x=6-4x. But 4x-4x=0, and we are left with

3y= - 4x+6

This operation is sometimes summarized as make one term change side while changing its sign

It would do no harm to put the right side of the foregoing equation in parentheses. I do that to avoid errors)

3y= (-4x+6).

Now y is multiplied by the number 3. To isolate y I have to perform the inverse operation of the multiplication, namely the division by 3

3y/3 =(-4x+6)/3. The left hand side is just y

y= (-4x+6)/3.

While result is correct, I can also open the parentheses
y= -4x/3 +6/3
y= -(4/3)*x +2.

Hope it helps.

How do you do basic subtraction?

Equals is used during a calculation of division, percentage, multiplication, etc. Use the total key or * key for a total of substraction or addition.
