Go to network settings and make sure that it's set to automatic and not manual.

If your ISP sets your Ip address dynamically the will set the DNS's dynamicaly too. However if you have an IP address that never changes (static IP) then your will have been assigned static DNS's too
You can obtain them from a customer services representitive for your ISP or on their website.

Try that forum. A few solutions that should help you out. If you have a media server on the network that could cause minor issues sometimes too.

When you put the IP address in you also have to add your DNS settings. easiest way to find your DNS server address is to use an XP based machine and type "ipconfig /all" it will list all of the properties of your computers network card. thake those DNS address' and plug them into your PS3.

Make sure in the settings and connection list that your address settings are set to automatic. I found that manually setting my internet connection settings so I could put the UPnP as disabled helped me.

or just type 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 into your web browser and your login for your router will pop up from there you can turn off your wep so it doesn't need a pass.

Perhaps resetting the router will solve your problem. Have you tried that?

sounds to me like you have the security turned on . Just type in your security key on PS3 and it should connect. Best of luck!

It is likely your internet connection is not working properly.

Unplug your modem, router, PC, and power down your PS3.

Plug in your Modem.
Wait for it to run it's full diagnostics.

Plug in your router and let it do the same.

Power on your computer and let it obtain an IP address.

Then re-try your PS3.

when tring to test connection it says ip address failed

wonderful! that's always a good thing to hear - sometimes it is the "make sure you're power cord is plugged in" problem, eh :)
