The picture goes blank after about 3 or 4 minutes. I have to shut it off and wait a few seconds and turn it back on. It does this 3 or 4 times and then it seems to stay on.

it is your monitor inside problem, you need to know follow issue:
1) inverter board some where the component got less connection
like MOSFET drive or capacitor swelling need to resoldering or change.
2) the back light lamps worn that most cause this symptom, need check or adjust inverter driver to match them work well
3) DC power supply filter capacitor swelling should be this problem, check and fix it.

A temporary solution is to unplug the TV for a few minutes, remove static from the glass with your hand. It is important to unplug rather than turn off. If you have a degauss button you can also press that before unplugging. Wait several minutes or an hour. Then plug it back in. If you have Picture in Picture it may be an issue with that and to permanently solve may need a repair person. The unplugging may get you by for a few days at a time. That's at least better than an hour.

You need to get this tv service asap.i beleive that the problem is in the inverter board or yb board.
