Your OEM windows license is keyed to the mother board and the version.
To get legit: 1) First make SURE you have the driver for your network card(s) on a flash drive or disk 2) Google "windows 7 universal installer DVD x64". 3) Download and Burn DVD 4) Boot from DVD and install using the "key" from the sticker on the side of your computer. Entering the key during install is optional but will insure that the correct version gets installed. 5) Install/update drivers as needed. 6) Go to windows update and install all 7) reboot and go to #6 (4 to 10 times till no more updates show). 8) Install, flash, java, shockwave, reader, etc. 9) Activate windows. The OEM key will not "activate" with the online system. You will have to use the telephone method which is a PITA but it only takes 10 minutes.
Every computer I get gets this treatment. Get rid of all the demos and bloatware.

My girlfriends Hp Pavilion A305W powers on then automatically powers off after it show a brief error message but also says F1 for startup. Should i press F1 and continue diagnosis?

Most probably your system is not getting your BIOS settings from your mainboard due to CMOS battery failure.

Check your CMOS 3.0v battery & replace it. Then reconfigure your BIOS settings from the CMOS setup.

Hope it helps

When my laptop is turned on, it shows, We apologize for the inconvenience, but windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this. If your computer stopped...

You have corrupt or deleted windows files or possibly a hardware error. The first thing is to try a repair using a Windows XP CD that came with your system.
XP REPAIR INSTALL 1. Boot the computer using the XP CD. You may need to change the boot order in the system BIOS. Check your system documentation for steps to access the BIOS and change the boot order. 2. When you see the "Welcome To Setup" screen, you will see the options below. This portion of the Setup program prepares Microsoft Windows XP to run on your computer: To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER.
  • To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R.
  • To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3.
3. Press Enter to start the Windows Setup: do not choose "To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console, press R", (you do not want to load Recovery Console). I repeat, do not choose "To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console, press R". 4. Accept the License Agreement and Windows will search for existing Windows installations. 5. Select the XP installation you want to repair from the list and press R to start the repair. 6. Setup will copy the necessary files to the hard drive and reboot. Do not press any key to boot from CD when the message appears. Setup will continue as if it were doing a clean install, but your applications and settings will remain intact. 7. You will need to apply Windows updates after this procedure.

Pc restarted

Irrespective of being a PC or a Mac the computer system behavior and consistency are dependent upon certain factors. These factors are broadly divided into software factors, hardware factors and the surroundings.
The common software factors leading to a logical failure are:
i.) System files responsible for handling control to the operating system missing or corrupt
ii.) Unsigned drivers or drivers trying to access read only system area
iii.) Operating system files corruption due to incomplete automatic update, malicious software
The common hardware factors leading to a physical failure are:
i.) Problems related to mainboard in terms of the chipset or connector, power supply issue like incompetent power supply to run the hardware setup
ii.) Problems related to hard drive itself or the data or power cables
iii.) Improper setup of hard drive cooler fans (if any)
The common surrounding factors leading to data loss are:
i.) Heat dissipation issues related to closed or poorly ventilated surroundings like in a basement or store
ii.) Moist surroundings leading to the formation of thick dust layers and thus increasing heat
iii.) Direct sunlight leading to extra heat and thus hardware failure
We should logically negate these scenarios so that we can narrow down to the root cause of the problem and take corrective measures.
In case we find that the data loss is due to any logical failure, we can use data recovery software as they are programmed to meet the challenges due to all kind of logical crashes. They scan through the file system, locate all the files which are marked as deleted and are distributed as fragments across the partition, logically rearrange them as per the file system information and then recover them. The data recovery software are indispensable in cases like file system corruption, hard drive formatting operating
system corruption, accidental file deletion or malicious software like virus, spyware etc. We can perform a ‘Do It Yourself’ data recovery using these utilities as they are self descriptive and User friendly.
We need to install the data recovery software on another hard drive which is bootable. We can also use a different working system preferably using the same operating system platform as for MS Windows. Then, we can attach our hard drive to the same for scanning. For attaching the hard drive we nowadays use USB 2.0 Hi Speed or IEEE 1394/Firewire Cables, Attachments or Enclosures. The same can be achieved by a Master and Slave setup that requires hard drive jumper operations and thus is a little complex. We should avoid any other jumper operations as of the mainboard as they may lead to unstable system behavior based on BIOS settings.
We should always save the recovered data on a healthy hard drive.
In case of data loss due to hardware failure where the hard drive is either not getting powered or can not be recognized by the BIOS, we need to go for hard drive recovery service. The data recovery service is personalized help, delivered by data recovery experts. Such experts can extract your data in all possible scenarios of physical data loss.

Sound all of a sudden stopped working

Remove any games from unit. Remove unit from charger, if that is its condition. remove battery from unit. Allow unit to sit for 5 min. replace battery. Power up unit, re-set initial settings and check for sound. No sound? wire inside unit going to slide switch for volume has come detached, or switch itself gone bad.

Check setup and setting to make sure sound is not muted, although I do not recall that being one of the options.

How do I reboot my HP Pavilion Desktop and start new?

If you can't do a shutdown via the software, press and hold the power button in for about 5 seconds. It will turn off. Then press the power button to start booting.

Watch the monitor carefully for a message similiar to: For Setup Press F10. For Recovery Press F11. They can be any F keys, but you have to be quick. You only have a few seconds to make a choice. If you miss it, try again.

Once you press the correct F key, it should open the Recovery program on your computer. Do a full recovery.

You may also be able to initiate the recovery program inside Windows. Sometimes the program is in Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Recovery.

Windows error

First, make sure there are no discs in any of the drives as this could disrupt the boot process. Prior to seeing the HP screen you should get a prompt as to press F10 to go into system setup. Once in system setup choose the option to go to system restore or system recovery. From there you should be able to restore your computer to a sytem restore point that was set up with a checkpoint at set intervals by Windows XP. If that is unsuccessful you may have to utilize your recovery discs.
Good Luck.

Restore the PC to original condition with the HP Recovery Manager Follow the steps below to use HP Recovery Manager to return your notebook to its baseline factory condition, then allow the PC to run all the setup programs.
  1. Press the power button to turn on the PC, and press F11 on the keyboard immediately while the computer is starting up. The HP Backup and Recovery Manager window will appear.
  2. Click Advanced options , select the System recovery option, and then click Next .
  3. If the Recovery Manager can access the hard drive it displays a prompt to backup up user files before continuing the recovery. You may either backup your files, or skip the backup and recover the operating system.
  4. If the Recovery Manager cannot access the hard drive to fix the system errors, use the set of Recovery disks that you created to recover the hard drive to its original condition.

Samsung kicked out hp 3in 1 printer already installed

Don't have your HP designated as the default printer (if possible)when you hook up the Samsung. When the Samsung is hooked up it sees the HP is the default printer. Well it can't have that, they discard the HP drivers. What does Samsung care about HP drivers theres only one printer port setup and thats the USB port you have them sharing. So yes you need to get a second cable. Tim
