Question about Dane-Elec DaneElec 4GB USB Drive Copper Hard Drive

4 Answers

Hello my usb stick 4 Gb doesn't work. When I put it in PC on My Computer it's shown as a removable disk and when I want to look into the drive it shows "disk is not formatted, do you bwant to format". When I look in properties of the drive it shown as if the USB stick is full with data, but that isn't so. Can you give me some advice what to do? Thanks already for the info, Erik Tummers

Hi,
that error usually appears when Windows is unable to read the filesytem of an hard drive. It can be caused by unsupported or corrupted file system. You should try to format your pen drive using either a free/windows utility, or using DOS command lines (Start>Run>CMD>format *driveletter*: without stars).
Hope it helped,
Franz

Hello Thanks but it didn't work. I got message that the files are is RAW? what does that mean and what's a solution?

  • Franzer Mar 02, 2011

Then you should try to create a new partition on it. To do so go to Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management and, on the left you will find Disk Managament. There you need to create a new FAT32 or NTFS partition and sees if that works. Let me know!:)

USB drives can be write-protected by modifying the StoreageDevicePolicies Registry key and WriteProtect Registry value.
click Start>run>regedit to open Registry Editor. and press control F to open the find dialogue box and type "usb device" or "driverdesc" to open usb mass storage device or type "usb mass storage device" in the search windows. And right click on it and delete. This will set the policy value to 0. then insert your usb device. It will work fine.
    # Remember: do not delete any unknow files in the registry as this will make some programes not work as usual.
    also
If you are running a Windows XP OS then you might be able to:

    - click start right click on my computer select open
    - Right click the icon of your Flash Drive (It should be F:/ or something)
    - Click Properties in the menu that comes up
    - Click the Sharing tab
    - Click permissions
    - And finally, click Allow next to Full Control.

You need to format the USB disk.
You can do that in My Computer by right clicking the disk in My Computer and then select format.

Sounds like your pen drive burned out then. Time for a new one. Try it on another computer if you can as a last ditch effort.

  • Fred Flintstone Mar 02, 2011

I'm sorry to hear that. Your USB stick should have some sort of warranty if it's under 90 days old.

  • Fred Flintstone Mar 02, 2011

    Curious, why did you downrank?

How do i get to unwrite a write protected thumb drive?

Hello,
Try this:
1. Put in your USB stick 2. Right click "My Computer" and select "Manage" 3. Expand "Storage" and go to "Disk Management" 4. Right click your USB drive (i.e DISK X down the bottom) and select "Properties" 5. Select "Policies" tab and select "Optimise for Performance" 6. Click "Ok" to save.
But in the most likelihood, your drive has reached its write limit (i.e. broken)

Hello

theres a few things you can do, when you do format your memory stick make sure you format it to the default settings.
Also make sure everytime you put files onto your memory stick that you remove the memory stick safely you can do this by right clicking the memory stick and pressing eject.
However the problem could be that your memory stick is corrupt.

Hello...after moving pc and take of power of WD Elements 400, it didn't show up anymore in the My Computer screen and doesn't seem to work...no sound, just the burning blue light..what to do?

Disassemble the case, and remove the 400GB disk-drive.
Connect the disk-drive as a "slave" disk-drive to some desktop computer, and see if you can still access the files.

Get the serial-number from the label on the top of the disk-drive, and access Western Digital's web-site, to check if the device is still under warranty. If it is, W.D. will replace it, at minimal cost to you.

If the warranty has expired, W.D. has a "Customer Loyalty" program -- you can buy another external disk-drive from W.D.'s web-site, at a significant discount.

My flash disc is unrecognized by the pc

Try inserting it into a different USB port, or try one on a different computer. If that doesn't work, you'll have to resort to formatting the disk to continue using this flash drive. (Formatting deletes all the data on the disk though).

How do you use usb sticks?

1. Plug thumb drive or USB into the USB port on the laptop.
2. Go to My computer and see if you see "Removable Disk" if yes then you double click here and you will see the contents of the USB drive.
3. load something from the laptop or PC to the usb just drag document or program from PC drive to usb drive.
4.Go to site called "Ehow" to gain more information.
Note of caution donot just pull USB from the usb port it will erase all the information and the USB drive will then be rendered usless.
5. Remove USB in the proper manner that is goto the "task bar and look for the "safe to remove hardware" icon or go to the "my computer" icon select the "removable disk" icon ( right click) and the select "eject" if the drive is busy or a message comes up that it is then closed all programs associated to it and the "Eject" the drive and remove it from the USB port.
I hope this helps. Have a good day!

16 GB USB 2 MEMORY STICK I cannot format the pendrive. 2)when i double click on the removable disk,it says ''Please insert a disk into Drive E :'' 3)i used a pendrive format utility but the problem...

I'm a little confused as you mention both Drive E. which suggests Windows and gnome which suggest linux.

WARNING: Formatting the disk will erase any data on it. Do not format the disk if you are trying to get the data off it that was on it yesterday.

It is possible that the partition table has been corrupted.

If you are using windows. You can either try right clicking on the drive (not double clicking) from Windows Explorer (My Computer) and clicking format. Choose the file system type and go. Alternatively, you could work through the disk management administrative tool. Right Click on My Computer -> Manage -> Disk Management. Right click on the volume and format it.

If you are using linux, see if you have a valid partition table using fdisk for the device. Then, after creating the partition, use mkdosfs to format the drive. If you have formatted the drive as a linux partition, such as ext2, ext3, or reiserfs, it is likely that Windows will not see it as a valid drive.
