Try using a different computer to access the hard drive. If another computer cannot access the hard drive, then most likely the hard drive itself is corrupted, and you need to reformat or replace it.

Seagate Freeagent not accessible - bad partition data. Any way to recover files?

There exist commercial "data recovery" services that can try to repair your device, just long-enough to rescue and copy your files. For example, see: https://services.seagate.com/index.aspx?lng=en-US for a "no data - no charge" guarantee.

Where get free drivers for Seagate FreeAgent Go

I'm not sure what drivers you're looking for in particular, however, I've found the Seagate FreeAgent download page for you. I've clicked around and all of these downloads appear to be completely free.

These files should be completely safe for download as they are provided by Seagate but don't neglect to set a restore point on your system before downloading and installing. The files are .zip so they must be unzipped, your system should be able to do this without any additional software.

Also, be sure to register your equipment to get customer support should contacting them be necessary. Some of these will require you to contact the company in order to gain access to the download.

Seagate freeagent go 250 gb. was working fine for

which files.... if you have "show system files" selected in your folder options in your operating system it still won't let you open them as that is it's way of preventing you from deleting or changing them

Just got a seagate free agent go 640gb and it didn't come with a manual or cd. loads on the computer fine but no icon or way to access it.

No external hdd has a cd or a manual, cause their is none required for it. It is as simple as using a flash drive. You need to go into My Computer (if using XP ) or Computer Window ( if using Vista or 7 ) and when you connect the Seagate to the computer you will be able to see an option poping up under removable storage devices. If it does not come up then return the product, its bad.

Do not despair - check out the documentation on page 3 (you'll need Adobe Reader to open this PDF file):

Seagate Freeagent Dropped

Unfortunately what you are describing is a damaged platter inside the hard drive. You may be able to get a technician to recover some data but generally this means the drive is gone forever.
