It sounds like your backlighting is working, but the lcd screen itself is not. This problem is usually due to a faulty power supply, but in your case it might have to do with the screen itself and its connection to to the circuit board. To narrow down the possibilities, search the monitor's model number with the symptoms. If the supply is bad, you can replace it yourself or send it to a repair center. Best of luck!
