Can not scan

WIndows Vista Business, 4 gigs of RAM, 250 gig hd.
On the officejet 5610 control panel when I hit the scan button the LCD, tells me no hp device attached and I get the amber warning light on next to the setup button. Everything is connected properly and the USB cable is good, tried two different ones, one brand new out of the box.. USB 2.0. I can copy the picture and I can scan it if I select HP Photosmart essential icon on the desktop. I never do see the HP DIGITAL IMAGING MONITOR anywhere. I have uninstalled the software twice and reinstalled it. Used a registry cleaner and PC Pitstop Optimizer after each uninstall, Updated my drivers on the HP website. Still have same issue, bought the officejet 5610 all in one yesterday evening.
I\'ve had the same problem for months. Now i don\'t see the HP digital monitoring icon anymore. I haven\'t seen the photosmart essential for many months now. Does anyone ever used the scanner on this printer. My problem started from day one.

Dear Sir/Madam,

i would guess the scanner driver isn\'t working on vista Else check out these settings....

  1. Click
    Start
    .

  2. In the Start Search text box, type
    msconfig
    and press
    Enter
    .

  3. On the User Account Control window, click
    Continue
    . The
    System Configuration Utility
    window displays.

  4. Click the
    Startup
    tab.

  5. Search the list for
    HP Digital Imaging Monitor
    .

    If
    HP Digital Imaging Monitor
is not on the list, the driver was not correctly installed or a custom
install was used. Proceed to step three to uninstall and reinstall the
    software.

  6. Select the
    HP Digital Imaging Monitor
    check box.

  7. Click
    Apply
    , and then click
    Close
    .

  8. Click
    Yes
    to restart.

Step two: Populate the destination list

The destination list must be populated in order for the
Scan To
function to work. Follow these steps to populate the destination list.

  1. Open the HP Solution Center. Use one of the following methods to open the HP Solution Center.

    • On the Windows desktop, double-click the
      HP Solution Center
      icon.

    • On the taskbar, click
      Start
      ,
      Programs
      , or
      All Programs
      , click
      HP
      , and then click
      HP Solution Center
      .

    If
more than one HP device is installed, click the tab for the All-in-One
product. The HP Solution Center shows only the functions, settings, and
support options that are appropriate for the selected HP product.

  2. Click
    Settings
    .

  3. Click
    Scan Settings and Preferences
    .

  4. Click
    Scan to... Setup
    .

  5. Click the
    Destination List
    tab.

    NOTE:

    Depending
on the computer performance, it can take several minutes for the Front
Panel Destination List to populate after the printer or computer is
    turned on.

  6. If the
    Front Panel Destination List
is empty, continue with this procedure.

    If the
    Front Panel Destination List
contains valid scan destinations, proceed to step three to uninstall and reinstall the software.

  7. Click each program to include on the
    Scan To
    list.

  8. Click the
    Add
    arrow.

  9. Click
    OK
    .

  10. Scan a document using the
    Scan To
    button on the front panel.

  11. If the scan fails, try to scan using the HP Solution Center
    Scan
    button.

If the scan still fails, proceed to Step three to uninstall and reinstall the software.

Step three: Uninstall and reinstall the software

  1. Insert the software CD into the CD-ROM drive of the computer. The software installer should automatically start.

  2. If the software installer does not automatically start, complete the following steps.

    1. Click
      Start
      , and then click
      Run
      .

    2. In the
      Open
      text box, type
      X:setup
, where X is the letter of the CD-ROM drive.

    3. Click
      OK
      .

  3. On the installer screen, click
    Uninstall
    . If there is no
    Uninstall
option, the software installation is incomplete.

  4. Insert the software CD into the CD-ROM drive of the computer. The software installer should automatically start.

  5. If the model supports custom install, install HP Imaging Device Functions
to scan from the printer. The recommended install will install this
feature automatically. It must be manually selected during a custom
    install.

  6. Follow the onscreen instructions until the printer software is completely installed.

  7. After successful installation, scan a document.
Thanks
Good luck

When this happen it is usually the USB cable. When this happen it is usually a problem with the USB cable. If
communication on USB cable is bad, as a result you can print but not
scan.Having also messed up a bit with the drivers ("HP digital
monitoring icon anymore"), you may also need to reinstall the driver.
My suggestion on how to proceed is the following.
Buy a better usb cable, the shilded ones cost a couple of dollars more but guarantee better communication.
Unplug printer from usb.
Unplug computer and printer from power for two minutes.
Plug back computer and printer to power, DO NOT plug in USB cable yet, leave printer NOT connected to pc.
Reinstall
drivers and software, keep printer disconnected until connection is
explicitely required by printer software installation process, or after
installing.
Connect printer when required.
Check that there is no
electric device (power adapters, extension etc.) very near to printer
USB cable, they can cause electromagnetic disturbance.
Try scanning. If it does not work at thhis point is either a problem with windows (new windows install required) or a faulty scanner.

Blue screen of death, cant seem to be stable after trying everything . thinking it may be a memory timing issue, using 4 gigs of drr 500 mushkin redline. will give further discription if you tell what info...

It could very well be the timing but it may also be the voltage setting. find the specs for the memory from their website, timing and voltage and enter your bios and make sure the voltage is set to the right parameters. The timing isn't as critical as correct voltage. I also wonder if changing the memory positions may be causing the error. My mother board made me use slots 3,4 not 1,2 kinda strange but when I switched them no more bsod. And remember windows 32bit systems will only use/show 3.2 gigs regardless of how much physical ram is installed. I hope this helps you and good luck.

PC is for ever locking up, either in standard windows operations or on the internet. Locks up 7 or more times every hour...Too the point I quit using it; Basic info: Intel Pentium D 830 3.0GHz chip -775...

Change your Bios to tolerate greater or wider changes in temperature. Virus scan, malware scan, make sure you know what is coming in and going out of the computer.
