If by desalazize you mean remove the deposits which build up from the minerals in your tap water, the easiest way to do it is with white vinegar (most vinegar will work but white is best for cleaning).

  1. Fill kettle with a mixture of white vinegar and water (about 50/50 but it doesn't have to be exact) until it covers as much of the deposits as possible.
  2. Heat the kettle until the liquid boils
  3. Let the kettle sit with the liquid in it for 3-6 hours
  4. Empty and Rinse
  5. Fill kettle with regular water, boil, and empty to get rid of any lingering vinegar taste.
If the deposits are especially thick, you may need to repeat steps 1-4 before moving on to step 5.

I turned on the cordless electric kettle without water! the metal rod inside the kettle turned black? was it burnt? i tried boiling water again and it worked. but is the metal rod toxic or not? can i still...

Yes, if your worried, use a fine emory paper to clean off the tarnish from the heat scorch. You may have shortened the life a little on the element but it is fine as long as it is not spalling, of flaking.

How to clean a kettle thats been cooked dry on the stove. Bottom has been discolored!

It depends on what material the kettle is made of. If it is aluminium you can only really scour it with steel wool and abrasives. It it is stainless steel, there are chemical cleaners that are available. These are acid based and the kettle can be left with the cleaner in it - follow the instructions on the container. The aluminium instructions will also work, but the chemical is less work although a bit of follow-up hand cleaning may be necessary.

My electrical water kettle does not heat water...how to solve the problem?

Check the kettle at another socket to ensure the socket isn't the problem.
Replace the fuse in the plug.
If the power flex is removable from the kettle, check the terminals in the connector havn't become burned.
The chances are that the element may have burned out in the kettle and in this case it probably isn't worth repairing.

I want to buy a replacement KETTLE only, for my black, RH Quick 2 Boil Kettle, any suggestions. Nick

I would contact Russel Hobbs and see if they actually sell them separately. When you are online to them there should be available, a list of retailers that stock the item you want http://www.amazon.co.uk/Russell-Hobbs-15198-Quick-2-Boil-Kettle/dp/B003DNSQPC

I see what you mean, it is part of a set. I bought one, in dark grey, and I am sure they sold one in black, from Wilkinsons. It was Quick Boil Kettle only, on a standard connector stand. TJ Hughes also stock them!

Hope that helps.

I have a Russell Hobbs kettle which is now leaking. Can it be repaired. It is several years old but still works well.

The coils of Russel Hobbs outrun the shell jar for sure as the corrosion in the kettle would have caused the leak.
The best can be to get the kettle welded with metal, use gas welding to mend up the leak and use a good grinding tool to polish off the suface.
Wash and clean/scrub well to remove all flux /dirt before you use it.
Boil water three times to discard before you use it.
You can continue to use the Hobbs.

New kettle leaves a metalic tast to water after boiling.

Try different water. If you use tap water normally, buy a jug of water at the store. The pH may be wrong (particularly if it is too low) and leeching metal from the kettle. Good luck.
