Question about Canon PC-950 Black and White Copier

1 Answer

Our Canon PC950 has recently started to show smudges on copies. The toner cartridge isn't new (it's about two years old). Could that be the problem? (The glass is clean.) When I open the machine, I see a small black cylindrical roller inside. The black coloring on the roller does not look even. What is the roller called? Should it be replaced? How do I do that? Thanks.

Yes the smudging is a sign that you are running out of toner. Check with someone like Office Depot and be sure they have your toner cartridge in stock. Instructions on how to remove your cartidge and install the new one should come with it.

Have just replaced Black Toner on Epson aculaser c2800 and now repeated regular pattern of smudges on every page (8 columns and 10 smudges per page)

This is caused by the toner cartridges. The manufacturer change an internal component to save a few coppers and this is the result. Usually only happens when the toner cartridge is old and the 'foam roller' in the toner cartridge starts to get a bit 'sticky' - as happens with some types of foam when it ages.

Two cures for the problem

1. Change the cartridge - make sure it is 'fresh'

2 Find an old cartridge with the old type of foam roller (plain full width) and swap this and its support into the cartridge to replace the new (spiral foam) roller

I have bought 2 OEM canon X 25 toner. They print came out blur and patches.

Hi,
do you mean that on the printed/copied picture the toner isnt "baked" and it smudges down?

If thats the case that means that you have fixing film problems and the cartridges are OK.

Hope that helps!

You have one off possibly 2 problems.

1. The toner cartridge is defective. Try another and see if the problem goes away.

2. The fuser roller is defective. It has a teflon coating and after a while it either gets encrusted with toner and transfers ghost images or the image doesn't fuse properly.

I would try the first alternative. Let me know if it works for you.

Black smudges on copies

Hi, try to pull out complete process unit(cartridge) with toner box .You have cleaner(blue or green color) move this cleaner from right to left side 4 or 5 times.Note that cleaner MUST be in home position-right side when you finish.Check print.
If problem still persists, you must do following:take away small grey plastic cap on left side of cartridge, then push complete charge corona(part with cleaner on top of it) to left side just enough to lift right side of corona from cartridge.Pull out that corona and you can see drum and developer roller. Turn the gear on drum, and look for smudges on black developer roller.Try to clean smudges with brush or with dry cloth.Toner will again attract to that area, but regular.
