Try rebooting the computer. Before the Windows screen appears start pressing F8. This will allow you to go into safe mode. You need to choose the option to Restore to last known good configuration. Your computer should restart and allow you to finish your update.

Restart the laptop in safe mode (by pressing F8 before loading the operating system) and cancel/continue the updates from there.

Hold F8 while booting to go into safe mode, or last known good configuration. Then, preform the update from there, and that should fix your problem.

It needs to get an update, After it updates it says it again

Give this a try,to clear what may be a faulty update.
1. Turn off your console
2.press the sync button on the console
3.still pressing the sync button, turn on your console with the power button.
4.wait until fully booted up, then release the sync button, this will clear any faulty updates, then try loading the update again.
If that still does not work you can download updates on to a dvd rom, just google downloading updates to console.aspx.
Vote if this helps.

My laptop comes on and all I can get is the Vista screen and the message 'installing 3 of 3 updates 0% complete. Please don't shutdown your computer'. I can't get a menu or anything. What can I do to get...

Your computer has downloaded and installed a few updates. You need to allow the laptop to complete this sequence of events. Once completed your computer will boot just like normal. If you do shutdown the computer before the installation is complete you may have to download and install the same updates again. This is perfectly normal...do not take your computer to a repair shop!

It Says "Installing Updates" but never shuts down

If you are updating windows xp and it says installing updates when you are shutting down your computer, you should let it finish, even if it tales overnight. depenind on how many updates you have, better to go to the updates web site and do it from there. after they have installed then you should be able to do a restart on your computer and compleate. Any thing ells you are best off contacting MicroSoft

Acer Aspire 5630

Seems like your VISTA upgrade didn't sucessfully upgrade itself from XP to VISTA. Seems like M$ update program detects your OS as XP and tries to install the SP3 for XP. VISTA only has SP1 released. Its currently stuck in a loop that it doesn't know what to do. Restart your laptop into safe mode by pressing F8 before the VISTA loading page comes up and go to Safe mode and backup your data and use the ACER RESTORE CD OR ACER RESTORE METHOD to help you reload your system back to factory defaults then upgrade back to vista without install any updates or connecting it to the internet.

This is my best solution to get you out of this weird and unusual situation.
