Many older sata drives have two power connectors.

These are

Sata (Data)
Sata (Power)
Moles (Power)

The reason for this is that when SATA drive first came around many power supplies had many molex connectors and usually only one SATA power connectors.

If you were to need multiple drives this would force an upgrade of you psu or use 2 Molex to 1 Sata adaptors.

The simple answer is that HDD manufacturers did this to make life easier on the customer and to avoid any product returns due to poor buying decisions.

Please also make sure to only use one of the power connectors. Using both will likely not cause harm but is unneccessary,

Most SATA hard drives have both the molex and SATA power connectors to work with every PSU (power supply unit). There's a good chance that your third connector is the Molex one, don't worry about it.

Hello, What is the largest hard drive I can upgrade too for my Biostar 330G? Can I use a SATA and install a IDE hard drive as my slave backup? Thank you. Remi

As I recall, this model has one IDE channel on, which typically powered an optical drive. The manufacturer claims that it supports one IDE drive, in theory, you could set the IDE HDD on the second connector of the IDE cable (secondary slave), however, it may be that the Bios will not recognize this.

My own thoughts would be, as this has 2 SATA ports, to leave the IDE connection alone and for the Optical drive and put another SATA HDD on the other SATA connector.

If you need to use the IDE drive, you can get an IDE to SATA adapter and that would enable you to use it connecetd to the SATA connector

As to capacity, I'd assume it would run any size of HDD

The new HDD uses a SATA data interface as well as a SATA power interface. You will need a SATA cable as well as a power supply that supports the SATA power connectors. Since this is an older machine you will probably need to buy a SATA cable and a Molex to SATA power connector. This should cover any cabling issues that you are having.

Trying to make my seagate barracuda 7200.9 slave

1) Open your computer case
2) On the back of the drive where the connectors are, you have jumpers. These small plastic tabs change the function of your hard drive. All hard drives have a special setup procedure. The information about jumper settings is on the top of the hard drive.
3) Remove plastic tabs and put them according to "Slave" instructions.
4) Connect drive to middle connector of the cord.
5) Connect power supply cord.
6) Secure the drive in place and close computer case.

Also make sure that the main drive is not set as slave.

Can I pull the 3 disk out of my broken hard drive and put them in another hard drive like the one I have and recover my music

that is a job for a professional. there are several companies on the web that specialize in Data Recovery. some are very costly and some not so much. if you still want to try this i would get 2 old hard drives and practice on them. then you can see what a chore this is.

I need the connector between HD and mother board from where can me get it

Any computer store should carry both PATA (wide, usually grey, usually about 2 1/2 inches wide as I recall) or SATA (skinny cord, maybe 1/2 inch wide) hard drive connectors. They're inexpensive. If you don't have a store nearby, a site such as newegg.com will have them available as well.

How do i hookup sata dvd drive

You should have been supplied a SATA cable if you have bought a new DVD drive. On your motherboard you will see 2 orange connectors just underneath where the older IDE grey cables plug in. Thesae are you 2 SATA connectors. They will be labeled as 0 and 1, if you are not using of these at moment connect to SATA 1 incase you decide to hook up a SATA HDD drive at some stage. Power cable just plugs in as usual. If PC doesnt recognise the drive you will need to go into the bios ( press DEL or F2 at startup) and it will be listed under something like drive configuration and just enable SATA there.

Sata, ide

Update: SATA II drives do have jumpers to make them backwards compatible with 1.5 Gb/s (SATA II drives are 3.0 Gb/s). So if your system is older and can only handle SATA (first Gen) then you have to add a jumper (Seagate has the jumper setting on the drive but sometimes supplies no jumper i.e. you have to have your own).
