How do you adjust the high speed mixture screw? I have a Ryobi RLH1100a MK III 31cc line trimmer, and after changing the fuel lines, it will start but not idle more than about 3 - 5 seconds before it stalls. My manual points to the carby and any adjustments I have done have not helped. The manual specifies adjusting the idle mixtures 1 1/2 turns counterclockwise after screwing it in all the way, but no adjustment for the high speed adjustment stating " no high speed adjustment is possible", however there is a taller adjustment screw. Does anyone know how many turns this high speed adjustment screw should be unscrewed to start with?

Hi montex124, I will try to help. In the past few years carb makers have been making changes. Some carbs have no adjustment at all, the ports are all fixed inside the carb. Other carbs have only the idle speed mixture screw that can be adjusted, like yours seems to have. Is this screw you mention at the top and completely outside of the carb to adjust the throttle? If it is it's probably the idle speed screw which can be adjusted to any idle speed you want and has nothing to do with the air fuel mixture but If it is right next to the idle mixture screw, it might be the high speed mixture screw but is capped so it can't be adjusted. The low and high speed mixture screws should be marked next to each screw H and L.
The 1 1/2 turns suggested is sometimes just right but other times has to be adjusted, so you can try adjusting it to get your idle but maybe adjust the idle speed screw first to get a higher RPM so it doesn't stall on you. Like I said earlier it just adjusts the throttle, and is like when you are using it, and giving it gas as they say. I hope this helps just a bit. Regards and good luck. Get back to me if you need more help or just let me know how you did. Denis.

Replaced carb on my ryobi weed eater still does the same thing starts but will not stay running

Most common problem with weed eaters is the small fuel line breaks off inside of fuel tank usually flush with top of fuel tank - check to see if fuel line is still connected to weighted fuel filter inside of tank - replace if necessary. If fuel line is intact then adjust High speed adjusting screw 1/16 counter clockwise to allow a richer mixture - special tool may be needed to adjust - available on ebay. What are the carb settings for ryobi rct 2800 cb trimmer ,they have been adjusted so the correct position of the screws is not known

Hi peter beaufoy...
Before you remove or try to adjust your low and high speed jets you should always count the number of turns it takes to lightly seat the idle mixture screw and high speed needle adjusting screws.
Be sure to write the number of turns down on a piece of paper so you will know how many turns from the seated position to open the jets when you go to reinstall them, or if you remove them for cleaning or replacement.
If you have aready tried to adjust them then the adjustments below should get it running for you for final adjustment when warm.
Normally you will adjust your idle jet to 1/2-3/4 turn open from the bottom seated position.
Then you will re-adjust the low speed of the engine when the engine is warm by turning the idle screw in or out till the engine runs smoothly at idle speed, around 1200 RPM.
The high speed jet is adjusted to 1 1/2- 1 3/4 open from the bottom seated position, after the engine is warm.
Then re-adjusted by turning the High Speed jet adjustment screw in or out till the motor runs smoothly at high speed.
Alway use the "lightly seated" method if you have not changed the screw settings.

Some times the carb diaphram gets weak and needs replacement while you are doing this spray it out with carb cleaner and blow out with compressed air, reassemble.

My ryobi 31cc 15" 700r won't start

You need to push the primer button 10 times or so (the button at the top of the speed control) to get the gass pumped up into the system again. Likely gas not getting through the line yet. Takes awhile.

Ryobi 31cc lawn trimmer carb adjustment

As with all 2 strokes if you have compression and a reasonable spark, you only need fresh fuel with correct oil ratio) and they must go !(as long as you haven't fiddled first and all gaskets are sealing) I start mine by(1) pumping the primer till it is firm,(2) full choke,(3) pull till it kicks ONCE,(4) half choke, pull till it runs, allow to warm up and(5) switch to run (you may need to apply a bit of throttle while pulling as in (4)(or give it a few more pumps if it dies) If all is ok, check that when properly warmed up there is a smooth transition from idle to full revs, if it hesitates it may need the LOW SPEED mixture leaning (clockwise) SLIGHTLY.If it dies the LOW SPEED mixture may need richening(anti-clockwise)(adjust 1/8 turn at a time) Make sure that motor is just peaking at full revs and is on the RICH side of peaking (HIGH SPEED mixture)(this will avoid seizing it Adjust both till it revs cleanly and is JUST rich at full, and idleing nicely and it should start without too much trouble.(If you have fiddled and are lost,-about 2 1/2 turns out from closed on both needles should get you started)
