Drivers for this laptop can be found at eMachines Support Downloads Support Documents Notebook Series E727
On this page there is an option for Wireless LAN. Pick the option for your specific wireless card.

You need to install the driver for wireless card. Try the emachine website to download the driver.

Since you re-programmed your laptop, you need to install the driver for wireless LAN. You mentioned that you're using Win 7 now so you need to find a driver that is compatible with emachines and Win 7. But you can try to download the driver fromm emachines' website:

www.emachines.com go to support/downloads type in your make model and look for the wireless driver making sure you click on the right one for the operating system that you are running eg xp or vista or windows 7 if there is one

or

www.realtek.com they have wireless drivers as well

The driver for the wireless is either missing or not working. Go to emachines/Gateway website and download the driver for your model/serial no.

does youre e machine have wireless connection? if not you need to purchase a wireless adapter in order for your e machine to connect to the wireless network, for the laptop you will have no problem with that because it has a built in wireless adapter, hope this help

when you installed the driver for the usb did you select your usb device model ? some drivers are written for usb devices AND for wireless cards (=pcmcia) and at the begining of the instalation they ask: please tell me do you have usb or pcmcia ? or they might ask you (for example) to select the right model.
now if you have "usb" but you selected "wireless card" then at the end it will try to locate a wireless card.

if this is not the case then probably your usb is not working ok - you should try it on another laptop (or pc) and then have it changed at the shop you bought it...

This is the manufacturer driver download page, you may need to update the wifi netwrok card driver, probably the Broadcom file, if you got to the "Control Panel" and goto the system icon and double click, then click on the hardware tab, then deviceManager, and see if any Devices have any "Issuse" (anything except for a "+" sign next to the catagory. then install the corresponding driver.
