If you want to receive off-the-air broadcasts (i.e., you have no cable satellite system), then yes, you'll need a digital tuning adapter. This set has only an analog tuner.

If you are on a cable system, you might not need a converter box, but it depends on your cable provider. Some systems still offer basic cable service without a box, and you can see what channels you'll pick up with the TV set for "cable" tuning. Other systems require a digital converter box or "digital transport adapter" for any reception. You'll need to check with your cable provider to find out.

RCA DTA800 TV Converter Box I need TV codes for the remote to work. The TVs are a GE, phillips magnabox

Good day,
I might be missing something, but you are describing a converter box that converts digital signals from an antenna to analog.
The converter box will be set to channel 3, and you should set your tv's to channel 3 as well.
Using the remotes that came with the tv's go into setup and if available as an option, you will find an option to select cable/antenna or automatic. Select automatic or antenna and save. If there is a selector switch on the back of the tv's, set to 3.

Connect antenna cable into input, and use supplied cable to connect from the output of the converter to your tv.

plug in power supply for converter box, tune tv to channel 3 then follow instructions to setup converter box including channel scan.
When done, the converter remote will control everything. However, the tv volume control will work even though the converter remote will have volume as well. The tv remote as well is needed to shut off or turn on tv. These functions can on most tv's be performed on the set as well.

No codes are required. The converter remote will work on any tv.

If you want to use both tv's then you will need a splitter on the output of the converter to send the signal to both tv's. Only one channel can be viewed at a time.

Viewing separate Chanel's requires a second converter box and a splitter connected to the antenna cable for viewing separate channels.

More options are possible, but I hope this helps you get started.
The converter box takes place of the tv's tuner and in essence disables it.

My digital tv tuner converter box with analog Zenith converter bo

Most DTV converter boxes have 2 outputs available; RF and component video. The RF goes in between the antenna and the TV and acts as a frontend tuner. The TV needs to be set to Channel 3 or 4 (depending on the box) and left there. All tuning is then by the converter box. By the way, you need to scan for channels as part of the setup. The other method is by using the audio/video component inputs to the TV and the set would then select AUX 1 or 2 etc to get the box input, and tune via the box.

About a converter box

You will need a converter box for both TVs just to get the HD channels but you might not see the HD resolution on this TVs.
Any TV that was manufactured before 2002 will require the converter box. A few of the high end TVs manufactured after 2002 might not require the converter.
Hope this helps.

Need converter box

Not if you have cable TV, satellite TV, or FIOS. If so, a converter won't do anything for you. Not needed.

If, however, you only use a regular TV antenna or rabbit ears, you will need a converter box as this model TV only has an NTSC analog tuner built in.
