Proper grounding the machine mite help. the frames are powder coated and they dont remove enough paint for a good ground point chek and make better contactwith frame

you must tight the ribbon cable and clean it. 2) clean the keypads from dirty, corrosion, and oxide. 3) adjust the REED switch see the diagram attached, clean it, and tight the connector very well. God bless you
Your touch sensitive screen may have failed. The touch sensitive screen is a thin transparent film that is secured over the front of the display screen.
When it fails, you can no longer select or input anything into the GPS via screen. This of course renders the GPS pretty much useless. Garmin will exchange your defective GPS with a factory refurbished unit with the latest maps and provide a 90 warranty for many GPS units. The Nuvi 250 service cost is $69. I could not find your Nuvi245 model listed so you might want to contact Garmin directly to see what the replacement cost will be.

I just helpped some one else with same probelm, try this see if it works.
In the battery compartment there’s a gold contact that touches the top of the battery (+ve) which was in a position that would never make contact with the battery. I bent it out slightly, made sure the battery was seated correctly (i.e. flat) and as if by magic my heart rate appeared on the large Garmin display!

I Have had the same problem couple of times (and forgotten each time how I solved it). I figured it out just now and this is what I did.
1) turn on unit and put on heart monitor (make sure battery is good and wet heart strap) 2) using the mode button navigate the menus to: Settings: General: Accessories: Heart Rate Monitor 3) Once in the Heart Rate Monitor option make sure "Yes" is selected and then use the arrow buttons to highlight "Restart Scan" . Press the enter button to rescan for your heart monitor. (I had to rescan twice) Go back to the main monitor screen to see if you are recieving heart rate signals.
I am not sure why a manual rescan needs to be done every time but it would be nice if Garmin fixed this issues in a unit software update (my unit has software version 2.80
Replace the battery. Then make sure that it is placed on the proper artery that it is supposed to be on. If your heart rate was 210 you would be in the hospital with a heart attack. And also the only person I know with a heart rate of 90 when running is Lance Armstrong. Your heart rate should be about 120 to 135 and it will just around in those areas but should never go higher
Menu>Settings>Data Fields>Bike Computer #>Press Stick>Select Field where you want HR to Display>Press Center Stick>Scroll to HR>Press Center Stick to select. et voila.
