I was trying to replace the drive belt on my dryer but while opening the top by removing the screws from the lint trap opening I accidentally dropped the pocket knife i was using down the lint trap and now it takes a long time to dry things and I'm afraid of what will happen if I dont get the knife out some how. How should I go about getting it out?

How do I open my Maytag Dryer model # SDE305DAYW heavy duty legacy series with lint trap on bottom?

Always unplug the dryer before working on it and watch for sharp corners.

There should be two spring clips between the top and front panels.
696437d1-dbf7-4e65-a6a3-dc8a0e21fe38.jpg
Insert a flat object like a putty knife about 6 inches from each side. Push in and top should raise. Once both are done top will hinge back.
The front panel should have two screws, either at the bottom front or inside top. Remove. The inner bulkhead will have four screws. Remove top two and feed belt through the face, then replace the top screws. then remove the lower screws, feeding the belt the rest of the way through. Doing it this way keeps the drum from falling. Complete belt installation. The belt goes completely around the drum , turning the around the motor with the idler arm to keep tension on it.

Belt tensioner and belt came off

Unplug, remove the screws at lint trap, do not drop in trap! Press in on the clips at the front edge approximately and inch in from each side, lift top. Remove the screws on the inside of front pane;, unplug door switch, tilt front forward and lift the front off. The idler pulley (what you are calling tensioner ) slips in the slots in front of the motor. This link has a picture of how the belt is installed I wrote this article a while ago How Replace The Belt on Your Whirlpool Dryer

Dropped pen into lint trap. Now Dryer makes a screeching noise.

The pen has fallen into the blower housing and is hitting the fan blades.

Unplug the dryer!! Remove the two screws at the top of the lint trap. Remove the rear panel. Remove the four screws at the bottom that attach the lint filter housing to the blower housing. Then, remove the pen from the blower housing.

How do I change the drive belt?

Unplug the dryer.
Remove the lint filter.
Remove the 2 screws at the lint filter opening.
Use a putty knife between the top lid and the front panel to release the clips.
They are about 2 inches in from right and left sides where the top meets the front panel.
Lift the lid towards the rear of the dryer.
Look inside the top right and left corners of the front panel and remove the screws holding the front to the cabinet. Remove the door switch wires and set the door aside.
Place the new belt over the drum, ribbed side towards the drum.
Look under the drum for the belt tensioner. It is S shaped with a wheel on it.
Place the base of the tensioner in the slots below the motor pulley.
Feed the right side of the belt through the opening under the wheel with the smooth side of the belt touching the wheel.
Place this side of the belt over the motor pulley with the ribbed side touching the pulley.
Replace the front panel.
Hook up the door switch wires.
Replace the panel screws.
Reattach the top lid and lint filter screws. Replace the lint filter.
Plug in the dryer.

Dropped bleach pen into lint trap. How do I get it out?

its not too hard to get out.
you will need a #2 phillips screwdriver and or a 1/4" socket driver
remove lint trap
remove 2 screws at lint trap
unplug unilt
open the top (2 clips between lid and front panel in the crack, push them with a butter knife or putty knife to release top) opens like a hood
pull out dryer and pull off rear panel
on the left hand side there is a metal duct like thing lol
that leads to the lint trap at the top.
there should be 4 screws at the bottom where it gets round.
remove them, and wiggle the duct open. your pen should be there..

2 screws at bottom front, pull out slowly from bottom first. Remove the door switch wiring. Then you will see the rest. Note how the belt rides thru the pulley and onto the motor. Belt # 341241, available for $11.99 at timerking.com. Hope this helps!

Kenmore 90 seies belt replacement

you have to remove the top and front panel,if you have a top lint filter remove the two lint screen filter screws, pull the top toward you and up,lint screen inside, most pull forward and up,so you might have to remove the two console head screws(one on each side, flip up and remove 4 more screws, now disconnect the door switch, now remove the 2 screws on the front panel top 1 on each side, now pull up and off, remove any other wires that might go to the door, now pull the drum out,now look down at the motor pulley wheel and the idler wheel, the belt goes around the drum, now put the drum back in place, now put the belt under the idler wheel and up onto the motor pulley, replace everything and your done-mike
