If you have tested the cord with a voltage meter, and are sure it is good, there are several other possibilities. The Kirby is designed so that it will not start unless the bag assembly and rug head ( or attachment hose ) are fully in place. Be sure the fiberglass housing at the bottom of the bag is tight against the side of the motor unit. If this is not the problem, your switch has probably failed and needs replacement. A less likely problem on a machine this new is that a carbon brush in the motor has either become badly worn, or is stuck in it's holder and will need replacement.

Splicing kirby electric cord

If you are unsure on how to splice the cord back together it may be best to just purchase a new cord. You can find a new G6 cord and it is easily installed into the switch at the base of the Kirby.

Replace my fan on my kerby

I had to replace mine fan yesterday. I broke away some of the outer pieces and grabbed the fan around the center with some vise grips and put another vise grip on the shaft. ( You can also put a hard steel tool of some kind through the hole in the shaft) when facing the front from the attachment side the shaft unscrews when turning it clockwise. It comes apart right in front of the fan where the washer is.

Just purchased a used unit.

1. Did I get a good price? - YES
2. What would be considered "regular" maintenance on these units?
Replace belts every 1-1.5 years (they stretch over time), make sure brush roll bristles are not worn and stick out of the nozzle by about 1/8 of the inch (more info here). If bags starts stinking - wash it (more info HERE). Keep it clean and store unit with the nozzle raised off the floor (so bristles would not bend)
Other than that - nothing else is really important.

3. Are there any "Normal Problems" that I should be aware of?
If it makes strange crackling sound when you push it while it is OFF and in NEUTRAL - it may need new bracket cam (instructions HERE). Be careful - do not DROP it on the floor. Original G4 nozzle hooks (that hold nozzle to the unit) are britle and may break. STOP using it if it starts to work LOUD ( fan probably is broken)

4. Any advice for a new used Kerby G4 owner?
Go through the manual - ESPECIALLY section where brush roll installation is explained. We have some good pictures that you may find a bit better than in the OEM manual HERE.

Enjoy,
Rocky
