Obviously that freezer is not achieved the required temperature. There are several reasons for that:
- Defrosting system is not working, which leads to accumulation too much ice on the evaporator that prevents heat transfer and reduces air circulation despite the fan is running.
- The problem with draining condensate after defrosting cycle which also leads to accumulation of ice.
- Leaking gas from the cooling system (reduced cooling capacity)
- Faulty compressor
if the temperature rises above 30 degrees then this is to let you know that there is a problem.
it could be one of these problems:
dirty condender
condenser fan not running (if available)
freezer fan stop working
compressor valves bad
lost of freon (under charge)
defrost heaters not working
bi-metal t'stat not working
timer bad
red light flashing means temp. is too high (not freezing) just an indicator to let you know that there is a problem
let me know: the freezer temp. (use a temp. reader)
any unusal ice build up on the back freezer panel?
is the freezer fan running?
compressor running?
parital frozen foods?
Compressor not running? have we got power yes, red light on so we must now decide if the stat is us or the comp is a problem. It must have been a hard week for you, get a freezer geezer to give it a once over.
What price new? to replace against a replacement comp if needed. could be an overload reley if there is one but its rare, good luck.
Hi dgh1,
The freezer should stay within 5 degrees of 0 while in operation. While in defrost the freezer may reach as high as 20 to 25 degrees. If any higher temperatures are reached your food will spoil as they are defrosted and refroze everyday. If you find that the temperature is allowing your food to defrost you may want to replace your defrost thermostat. This device is located on top of the evaperator coil inside the back of the freezer. It is made to turn the heater off when a temperature of 55 degrees is reached. One other possible problem could be your defrost timer is taking to long to restart the cooling cycle after defrosting. I hope this will help you and please send any other questions you may have, I am happy to help. and dont forget to rate me.
