I'm assuming that you are upgrading XP to Win 7 just a guess. You have to download the upgrade advisor from Microsoft first it will set the upgrade in motion.

If you have computer experience with computer upgrading there are other ways to go about it however you will have to completely wipe the drive and set the disc in the drive and make sure it boots to DVD or CD ROM as the first boot. So if you are not good at this go with the advisor purchase a legal copy of Win 7 so that you have a legal serial.
Then you may have to hunt for a driver or two. Win 7 is usually great with upgrading drivers during the install make sure that you are online doing the upgrade. I hope this assists you. If you have the original disc for the lap top it has all of the drivers and software that came with your purchase. If you have issues with drivers just use the drivers discs that came with your computer to re-install them. Great question!
