Hi, we have a Blance BSO602 oven which has started to produce a burning plastic smell whenever it is turned on. It doesn't appear to be coming from inside the oven itself, and I know of no plastic which has come into contact with the oven anyway. I'm guessing something is getting too hot somewhere but at this stage there doesn't appear to be any smoke to suggest where that might be. Obviously I'm a bit concerned about the possibility of it being a short-circuit or wiring getting burnt, but even if it's not, I guess something is getting damaged. I am very handy, and may be able to solve the problem if I knew where to look and how to get to it. Thanks, Ian Bradford.

I'm guessing this unit is an oven only. Is it new or have you ahd it for a while? New ovens often smell for a little while. Probably the best thing to do is to remove the oven from its cavity and sit it on a stool or the floor. Remove the outer casing from the rear and the top. This should give you a pretty good look inside. If it's a major problem you should spot it straight away. Good luck.

Oven had a burning smell.

Only if you have it turned to Convection oven. Or it is a convection oven and then in that case the fan must always turn to circulate the hot air, do not use if fan is not turning .

If you smelled a plastic burning smell you've burned some wiring somewhere. You would need to pull out the whole thing and start by looking at the back. I once had a dead mouse that had shorted across the relatively high voltage terminals common on most stoves. You should unplug the stove before doing anything like removing panels. Be very careful. Once you've found the problem you might need to call an electrician to fix it, depending on how brave you feel and where the problem is.

Wherever you bought it from should have a warranty. Get them out there to look at it. The smell of burning wood is odd. Check to make sure all of the packing material was removed prior to installation. That could be burning cardboard on the outer casing of the oven.

EW30EW65SS Stainless Steel smells like burning electrical

Hello purrpplee - If the smell is coming out of the oven vent, more than likely it is something inside the oven that is creating the odor. Also, keep in mind that new cooking products can create a burning electrical odor when the bake and broil cycles are used as any residual coating or film on the oven liner and elements burns off. However, if odor increases consult a professional for an accurate diagnosis.

My electric Oven keeps tripping the breaker off as well as making a popping noise while doing it and leaving a burning smell. When i turn the knobs to the burner on i hear a clicking noise coming from the...

Hi. YES you most definately have a short. The burning smell is coming from either the wire arcing and thus producing ozone and heat, or the insulation on the wire is being burnt. Take the back off the control unit to expose the wires and see if you can see where the wiring is burnt. It could be a loose connection, or something more serious.

If in doubt, call a professional repairman to check it out.

OVEN WILL NOT BAKE , IT WILL BROIL

I have the same problem, I took off the back panel and noticed that the EOC (electronic oven control) board is blackened and most likley need to be replaced. My wife was cooking a pizza and she smelled a burning plastic smell, she looked in the oven and saw the pizza on fire and smoke bellowing from the control panel area. So i unplugged the oven and saw the circuit board did start on fire and fortunatly it went out before serious damage. No matter what you set the oven on the display shows it as being correct, but only the top element comes on and it is on HIGH!!!! DO NOT BUY FRIDGIDAIRE!!!!

Oven smokes and smells like burning plastic

This happened with my oven, happened twice to the same (newer) oven actually. The smell and smoke occurred both with the oven and with the use of burners on stove top. Turned out it was the main line cord which had a split. The first repair they replaced the thermol block and all the bolts holding it into place (for a total of 9 parts) the second time (about a year later) the repairman replaced the line cord and said that it probably should have been done along with the first repair. The smell coming from the oven before the repair was a toxic burning wire or burnt plastic smell. There was also smoke if the oven was left on long enough. The repairman said that the amount of heat to "cook" the connection on the line was at a fairly dangerous level. It was recommended to me by the fire inspector (who was in my unit for annual condo inspections) that it was unsafe and to have it repaired immediately. Hope this helps. Best of luck.

Kitchen aid, self cleaning

The only solution is to get a new oven, The paint in the oven burned off, and now the electic board is burning out. This oven when it hits about 400 degrees it makes this chemical plastic smell, and at selfcleaning it makes the same smell for 3 1/2 hours, and come to find out it burned the paint off
