Check the mtion sensing magnetic switch thats under the seat rail. It determines if you are rowing and sends a signal to the computer. Make sure all connections are fully seated. You may have loosened a wire when you swapped the batteries.

My battery keeps dying which I have replaced twice in 14 months. The alternator was tested and this is not the cause? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Not everyone knows how to test alternators adequately ... but that is not to say that whoever tested your alternator did anything wrong either!t

One of the most annoying situations to have in any vehicle, is a mystery drain on the battery. It could be something as simple as a light not turning off somewhere. A trunk light that stays on, a glove box light, or any other lighted enclosure, an under-hood light, or perhaps even a defective phone charge cable that draws current even if the phone is disconnected!

If you have a voltmeter anywhere, connect it across your battery, AFTER setting the correct range and function on the meter. The voltage will be 14.2 to 14.6 VOLTS (NOT AMPS!!!) with the meter connected across the battery terminals, the engine idling, and as many things turned OFF as you can control. If the voltage is 12 point something, when idling, either the alternator is defective or not turning!

Any multi-function meter you get will probably have some current ranges. If you are not afraid to, you could (with the engine off and cooled off), DISCONNECT one battery terminal. Then connect your meter (as a CURRENT meter), in series with the disconnected battery terminal. Read the meter, and that will tell you IF you have a drain on the battery, and how much drain (in amps).

Such meters are very low cost at places like Harbor Freight Tools! Well under ten bucks!

How do I know if my dell laptop Inspiron 6400 battery is dead? Presently if I unplug the AC cord the laptop powers off..

The battery has a digital meter on it.
(The row of LED lights).
Press the test button on the end of the row. How many LED's show up?

The power adapter may not be powerful enough to charge the battery AND operate the laptop.
Is the power adapter a "Dell" brand or a Kenninsington or other third-party adapter?
If not a Dell brand adapter, tyhen it can't charge the battery. get a Dell adapter (or borrow one to make sure).

Computer runs off battery only not the power cord (battery is brand new)

You have a serious problem with the power and charging circuit. Normally if the battery is faulty the laptop can function with the power adapter plugged and running off the mains.
If a techo cannot fix without replacing the motherboard, then replacing the motherboard might not be a cost effective solution.

You salvage the hard drive by inserting it into an USB hard drive adapter case and use it as an external USB hard drive.
Sorry about this, you have very few options.

I have an hppavilion entertainment PC laptop...when I power it on all the lights come on and I can hear it running but nothing happens with the screen

There is a button on all laptops that looks like ( resembols ) a little monitor screen

It's there as a function key to allow you to select an external VGA monitor instead of the laptops display.

This button could have gotten pressed by mistake and has turned your laptop dispay off.

D is the FN function key , and you may need to hold it down while you press A row or B row

On the A row or B row you will find the one that looks like a little monitor.

Thank you for using FixYa!

Dell Latitude C610 battery claims its too hot to charge....

The charge light flashing orange-orange-orange-green....-orange-orange-orange-green.... usually means the battery has reached the end of its life and now it needs replacing.

There are three ways to test your battery:

1) If the battery has a button on the bottom of it and a row of 5 leds, then push AND HOLD the button for 5 seconds. The LEDs should all turn OFF, then turn back on showing a pattern. If all five LEDs turn on, the battery is dead.

2) Open the Dell Quickset application (doubleclick it in system tray), go to Battery Meter, go to the battery health tab, and pick your battery. It should tell you there if the battery is healthy or not.

3) Reboot your computer and go into the bios. Pick the Battery tab in the bios. It will list the battery health there.

1)try to check also if you'll see a solid GREEN LED light on your ac adapter.if yes, possible problem could be on the battery port or the battery itself

2)With regard to the battery meter, where did you find that?If not in the BIOS,try this.restart computer and press F2 several times .Once you're inside the BIOS.try to go to the battery option-try to see if the battery indicator would say 100% also.

3)if 100%,try another battery if you have one.use only the battery as the only source of power..if a known good battery works then the problem is with your old battery.if a known good battery won't work, that would mean that you have a problem with your battery port.if that is the case, you may have to replace your motherboard for that but if you still have an active hardware warranty on your pavillion dv 4000.try calling the manufacturer for a motherboard replacement and try asking also if your battery is part of any recall.

4)if the battery meter in the BIOS does not say 100%, try charging the battery for an hour then go back to the BIOS try to see if the battery meter would go up.if it increases the battery meter try using the battery as the only source of power...if nogo,go back procedure 3.
