Black screen for HDTV channels -- but TV menu and DVDs display normally

We've had our Hitachi 42" plasma for almost two years and it's worked great. But a few weeks ago, it stopped displaying over-the-air HDTV channels. It seems to think it's still displaying them--it shows the channel numbers when you flip through them via the remote, and it shows SD channels (and DVDs work/display fine). I checked the signal strength in the TV Menu -- all channels are 95% or higher strength. I got a new HD antenna, no change. I reset to factory settings, had the TV rescan for channels, etc. Obviously the display is working, but somehow it's not displaying the TV signals that it is receiving. Any suggestions?
thx Dave

Still looking for help. I've poked around in the onscreen menu and can't find anything that fixes it.

    Resetting the TV

    If the
buttons on the remote AND the buttons on the TV case do not work (channels do
not change and you cannot open or navigate the menu), the TV has stopped
responding. Reset the TV as follows:

    NOTE:

    Some TVs have a reset
button. If available and accessible, try using the reset buttons before
using the steps below. Using the reset buttons can save time.

    1.
    Unplug the TV
power cord from the power outlet.

    2.
    Unplug any
connected devices (DVD, Set-top boxes, etc...)

    3.
    Press and hold
the TV power button for five seconds.

    4.
    Plug the TV
power cord back into the power outlet and turn on the TV.

    5.
    Open the
on-screen menu to confirm that the TV is responding again.

    6.
    Turn off the TV
    and reconnect the devices.

    7.
    Turn on the TV.

You may not have the resolution set to hd even though you are on the channel. Confirm that you are using hd cable and your set is displaying 720p or greater. This will sometimes pop up on the screen when you tune to a hd channel. it sounds like you are on 480 i or p. good luck

42" philips plasma, black screen and flashing red light

This fix was posted on similar problem, worthy of repeating: Replaced 3300mf 10V capacitors at PS. Both had bulged slightly. Upsized to 25V as the previous solution poster had suggested 16V but I could not locate 16V so used 25V and TV is back to normal!

Black lines on plasma

The matrix controler or the matrix drive area is failing. The fix is to change the proper circuit boards, and then do the factory setup to match the board is necessary. In the worse case, it may be the display screen itself that has a failure occuring.

You will have to bring the set for factory service to have the work done. If the set is out of warranty, it may be expensive to service.
