Hello FixYa
Allthough I purchased new batteries the mirror
has locked in the up postion (I tried two new sets of batteries}
I can pull down the mirror manually , it doesn't seem stuck.
I know it is a dinosaur and I have a Digital but I like using the old
camera once in a while.
Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks
Danny

1) Make sure your battery is at least 50% charged.
2) Open the menus and go to the tab with the wrench.
3) Highlight "Lock mirror up for cleaning".
4) Follow the triangular arrow to the right and lock the mirror up (don't worry that it is already locked up).
5) Turn the camera's power off. Wait a few seconds and power it back on. The mirror should release.
Turn it off the green rectangle setting and see if it still does this (for example, turn the mode dial to P instead). If it stops doing that, then the flash up shaft in the top cover is bent. If it still does, then either the phase switch on the bottom of the mirror box needs to be cleaned, the shaft the phase switch gear is on is broken (common) or the shutter has a problem.
Have you got the camera set for mirror lock up. Check and disable if appropriate. When mirror lock is selected the first press of the shutter button moves the mirror up the second press fires the shutter
do you have exact model - this maybe bulb which allows the shutter to stay open for as long as the shutter release is pressed - or mirror lock setting - for macro work to avoid any camera shake when the mirror moves - by locking the mirror
We own a 2004 XC 70 Volvo AWD. The interior rear view mirror decided to die. There is a discolored patch (bubble type) in the middle section of the mirror. A new one will set us back a cool grand! Does anyone out there know how to fix it?
Volvo dealer says:
It cannot be replaced with a used one.
It's software operated.
A similar one from a similar car will not work, It will play havoc with other components, ie: sun roof, electric windows, etc.
All I needed was a new battery. They installed a new one, and I think that's waht caused the rear view mirror to go bad. They probably shorted the system as they were installing the battery.
Thanks
I'm looking for the source of this same problem. I was able to get my d70 unstuck by: 1. Set to full manual mode. 2. In the menus set mirror lock up to yes and then press shutter release. 3. Turn camera off and then back on
When you say you put in a new roll of film, did the camera advance the film with the mirror locked up?
Have you tried triggering the shutter few times to release the mirror?
If that doesn't work, open the back of the camera. Turn the film take up spool in one direction...that should release the mirror down.
Turn it also in the opposite direction.
If that doesn't work, reach inside the lens mount opening and pull the mirror (very very gently) down. Don't force it down if it doesn't want to go.
Sometimes that releases the mechanism that freezes from sitting idle for too long.
It is always a good idea to take the camera out and triger few frames every couple of months to keep things lubricated.
Let me know if that fixes it.
AJ.
The camera is a Minolta x-7a
