First, you have to find out why it doesn't "turn-on" before it could connect to the computer. The battery may be bad. If you have an external power adapter use it. If it powers ok, then connect it to the computer. If not, then the charging circuit is bad - it can't charge the battery as well as apply external power.

Computer not detecting

Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.

THEN, do the "Repair" in the Philips Device Manager

"FREZZING UP"

Put the device into recovery mode to see if it will connect that way. Recovery Mode - Turn the device off (hold power for 20 seconds) - Slide the hold switch into "hold" position. - Press and hold the "record" button while connecting it to your computer. Keep holding the "record" button until you see the "new hardware found" on your computer. If this works, you should reformat and re-install the firmware. Find it here; http://www.sandisk.com/Assets/File/Downloads/firmware/e200fw01.00.12.exe If it doesnt work, try a different PC. If that doesnt work, try a new cable. If you need more assistance, please add to the question. Best of Luck.

Help needed

Here is a fix I got from Sandisk support: Let's try this: take the battery out of the player and wait for a full 5 minutes. While the battery is out, please hold the power-on button for 10 seconds. After that, connect it to your computer (without the battery). Does it work when it's connected to the computer? Regardless of that result, disconnect it from the computer, then put a brand new alkaline battery back in, and see if it will turn on. Now, another thing I found that worked once, was to remove the battery, hold the power button for 5 seconds, then replace battery. The unit powered up after that.
