The drum on our Neptune dryer has cracked and while we've received a new replacement drum (the second one since the first was warped), we have no instructions on how to install it. To get anyone out to do the work is prohibitively expensive.
Where did you order the felt drum liner. It does not seem to be easily available online or from Maytag.
I AM IN THE PROCESS OF REPLACING THE DRUM ALSO BECAUSE OF IT BEING BROKEN RIGHT WHERE THE GROOVE IS IN THE BACK OF THE DRUM THAT RIDES ON THE ROLLERS.
HERE IS THE WAY I AM APPROACHING IT: THE OLD DRUM IS OUT - NOW I AM INSPECTING THE DRUM SEALS AND ROLLERS - SINCE THE OLD DRUM IS ALREADY OUT YOU CAN SAVE YOURSELF ALOT OF HEADACHES BY REPLACING THE DRUM ROLLERS, FRONT AND REAR DRUM SEALS, AND THE BELT ALONG WITH THE NEW DRUM. I WOULD ALSO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE OPEN SPACE TO GIVE THE DRYER A GOOD CLEANING AND VACCUUM PRIOR TO THE NEW DRUM INSTALLATION. BE SURE NOT TO FOLD THE REAR SEAL OF THE DRUM DURING RE-INSTALLATION. TAKE YOUR TIME AND DOUBLE CHECK EVERYTHING AS YOU GO MAKING SURE THE DRUM RIDES NICE AND SMOOTH ON THE ROLLERS AND THE SEALS ARE FLAT ALL THE WAY AROUND. I HOPE THIS HELPS YOU TO NOT HAVE ANY FURTHER PROBLEMS FOLLOWING YOUR NEW DRUM INSTALLATION.

We have the same machine. The drum also broke so we had it professionally installed. It wasn't done well enough and after the 90 day repair warranty, other problems developed. We still don't have a dryer and the next repair is $500 as other parts were damaged and we didn't catch it within the 90 days.
Bottom line: do have it professionally installed but be sure to ask about their work guarantee. As soon as you have any problem at all, call them back.

This was the procedure my husband ended up using (even before we got this tip) and all is working perfectly! Great advice!
