MD781 battery wont charge...will run with the power cord plugged in, I replace the battery first thinking that may be the trouble. Still wont charge...it would run for a short while on the battery when unplugged, however it dies as soon as I unplug it at this point...

on some older laptops the battery has to be installed for it to turn on.
if the battery don't hold a charge it's no good.. but you need it to get power from plug.

I would think the battery is defective.

Not charging means the battery is not being charged. Batteries only have a useful life of so long, then they die and will not take a charge so you have to replace them.

If the laptop works fine when the power cord is plugged in, then just replace the battery. if the laptop does not work on the power cord, then you need to either replace the power cord or look to see if the DC Jack where the power cord plugs into the laptop is broken or wiggles. When the DC Jack it bad the battery will not charge and eventually the laptop will not turn on if the power cord can't make the connection correctly.

Take an ink pen and push the tip inside the jack and see if the little pin wiggles, if so the jack is bad. You'll have to take the laptop apart to fix it. Most times it is soldered onto the motherboard, so you will have to desolder the old and solder a new one.

You Power Cord must be bad. If you cannot get on the laptop by using just the power cord, then the power cord is bad and needs to be replaced. Also it sounds like you've been operating off your battery since the power cord is bad, but now the battery is dead because the bad power cord was not charging it.

Get a new AC Adapter and Power Cord. Or it could be that the pin where you plug the power cord into the table is damaged or broken.

The problem could be with the port the cord connects too. It could also be with the battery. If you take the battery out, and you still can't run on AC power, you need to replace the port. Take it to a computer/hardware shop and have it done.

If the laptop is old think about changing the battery.

Sounds to me like the transformer circuit that enables the batery to charge. If you have bought your machine within the last 12 months it should still be covered by warranty so go back to the supplier. If not covered I wouod still try as it is not beyond reasonable expecations that the machine will operate perfectly in very way for more than 1 year.

You either have a bad battery, or a bad power supply that charges the unit (power cord). If you have a friend that also has a PSP, try swapping out the battery to see if that works, and or try another power cord to see if the charging indicator light comes on. I think that possibly your battery is dead and the power cord might be bad. You can find good deals for both the battery and cord on ebay. Good luck!

could be the A/C connector on the mother board this would have to be replaced by a TECH if your cord is good and you have voltage coming out of the end of the cord that plugs in to the laptop then your A/C connector on the mother bord is bad and its a common problem this happens with use, if the laptop is new then return it if not it could cost $120.00 to fix.
