Is the Dremel 400 XPR unreliable or are the users expecting to much from the tool? I like the looks of the tool but I will probably end up with a 4000. I've been using a cordless tool but it keeps shutting down, requiring turning the speed dial to off and then back up to speed.

It's heating up and tripping the internal overload. They do that to prevent the battery from overheating. The cordless are nice but they have limited applications

you can try going to "dremel.com" and downloading the manual, also there they have a toll free number for tech support which might be able to send manual as a PDF file. Let me know if you have trouble finding it and I will come up with another source
The attachment is 'keyed to the motor assembly so it will only go on in one direction. If it was mistakingly forced on in a different manner it can get jammed. Try twisting it from left to right while pulling straight out.
It could be the fuse between the brush and variable speed control switch. I have the same problem and found the fuse blown. I am hoping that I can replace the fuse without having to buy the complete speed control unit which is about $17.00 from Dremel. If yours is still under warranty you could send it back. If I can find a fuse for mine I will let you know where to get them. joatmontag
I would go direct to Dremel.com or call them at 1-800-437-3635 and get the schematic and parts you need, I just checked and they have a parts diagram online that you can view. go to the section about manuals/literature and type in your model number. Good luck
