One quick way to "excite" the field is to plug an electric drill into the outlet of the running generator. Engage the trigger on your drill and spin the chuck backwards. DO NOT HAVE YOUR FINGERS WRAPPED AROUND THE CHUCK WHEN DOING THIS. IF IT WORKS (not 100%) THE DRILL WILL START UP!!! Coleman was bought out by Pramac, you can find there webpage here.

Hope this helps.

Robin engines won't start

Look for kill switch. Make sure it is wired correctly and not broken or something like wires no connected. It cuts spark when activated so likely the problem since its in-line with exciter.

The gen runs great! but won't put out any power!

If the unit has been setting a long time then you may have to re-excite the rotor. The rotor can loose it's magnetism if the units sets for more than 6 months.

Do you have more information of what happened?

We just bought a coleman powermate 5,000-6250 gen and it runs great but will not produce electricity. i hooked a 75 watt bulb up to each plug in and it would just barely come on the fade out. but would...

Your generator produces proper voltage and 60 cycles at 3600 rpm. Use meter to adjust voltage/engine rpm. If after adjusting rpm setting and gen. does not have proper power, remove cover to generator and examine brushes and commutator rings for wear and voltage regulator/rectifier for burned components swolen or leaking capacitor and replace parts as necessary. Parts are available www.jackssmallengine.com Good luck

I have a Coleman Powermate 6250. Runs Great, No power to outlets!

Excite the genset.

with the gen engine running,
1) plug a 3/8 drill into an outlet,
(make sure the drill is set to the forward rotation)
2) hold the trigger in the run position
3) by hand, rotate the drill chuck with a quick flip of your wrist.
*** NOTE: BE PREPARED !!! this will excite the gen-set and the drill will start to run as normal.

I have a 3 year old Coleman Powermate 6250

Try this! To excite it. Shut off the generator! Unplug everything,Then use the 12 volt battery to excite it per manual. Make sure the engine is NOT running and the breaker switch is in the on position. Now with the battery 12V removed restart the generator! This should fix it if the problem is that it lost its magnetism.

Powermate 6250 model pm0545007.01 engine runs no a.c. output

You will need to install new diodes, they are located in the plastic housing behind the receptacles...It looks like little spark plugs..They work to put dc voltage to the rotor, without the exciter voltage applied, you will not get ac power out..The part number is 3483.01....You can buy these online for about $6 each, they have 2 inside the generator, and you should change both.
