device is turned on and enabled, and glows orange when off or disabled.
Some newer models use different a different color scheme, see the user
guide for more information.
To turn on and enable the wireless device, do the following:
To
turn on the wireless device, simply move the switch to the on position.
On some computers, the switch is actually a touch point on the panel
above the keyboard.
To enable the wireless device, right-click the HP Wireless Assistant (disabled) icon
and select Open Wireless Assistant
. Click Turn On
. The HP Wireless Assistant (enabled) icon

yeas a device driver is a peice of software. it basicly tells your computer what device you've attached and what it does.. if you know the manufacture and model number you can normally type that in google follwed by driver and will give you a list of sources to download it from... you will never have to pay for a driver as it is free from the manufacturer normally on a cd that comes with the device... if you have windows xp or later windows should automaticly recognise it and set it up for you.. it will then appear in you my computer section as a new drive
Right click on my computer icon then click on property then ->hardware ->device manager
then check there is any cd/ dvd drive showing in list. If you can see your cd /dvd driver then uninstall it. then restart computer. But if you cant seen then you need to refix your cd dvd rom. For that pull your cd drive from laptop but make sure there is 1 lock system near rom just press that lock and pull drive then refix it.
If the wireless card is about the size of a thick credit card then it is a PCMCIA card device. This card plugs into the PCMCIA slot on either the LH side or the RH side of the laptop.
You need to install the wireless card driver on the laptop and configure it to communicate with your wireless router which is connected to your Internet Service Provider.
This wireless card can also connect to the Internet on free WiFi sites.
As you are a novice, you will need a computer savy friend to help you or your friendly computer shop.

Christalnet,
I'm afraid I'm a technical novice. I'm using windows xp, and each time bt have offered assistance they have taken over the computer and wizzed around checking programmes, changing settings, changing channels and attempting to connect to the hub. I've been in the dark as to what exactly they have adjusted, and each time I've been connected to a different technition.
