My hp dv9008nr windows xp turns on hard drive moves along with the fan but it won't boot up. It shut down in the middle of me trying to recover the microsoft ware. I just replaced the screen and it worked for 2 days I had to bypass the bios cause I forgot the password. And it would go blank while I was on my laptop it did this 3 times then the third time it wouldn't boot up?

EDIT:

the problem is the nVidia GPU. it often overheats. there was a recall for this computer a while back. the recall has ended, but just so you know, you need to find a way to better cool the GPU. a copper shim between the GPU and the
heat-sink will do wonders for you. apply Arctic Silver Thermal Epoxy to the shim and attach it to the heatsink. then, you need to use arctic silver 5 thermal paste on the GPU (about .2 grams should cover it) and reattach the heatsink to the board. while you are at it, replace the CPU thermal **** with the as5 thermal paste. my GPU is running now between 58 and 66 C. its really high still, yes, but the computer will not longer shut down because of overheat. get a laptop cooler for this thing too. it will not survive a hot summer day. i am absolutely positive.

it blocked the "C" word... wow. the other word for fecal matter. XD thats not cool

i JUST replaced the motherboard for this unit today. it works fine if you keep it colder. the problem was actually a blown charger circuit. someone a while back had a frayed cord and it eventually made the chips go BOOM. there was smoke residue in everything.... lol.

I had the same problem. This is how I reset my password on a compaq or hp nc6320.
1. unplug the power cord
2. unplug the battery
3. take two screws from the ram cover on the back of the laptop (see youtube for this step)
4. open the keyboard
5. unplug the cmos battery cable (very easy to do)
6. plug power cable and turn on the laptop
7. laptop would erase passwords.
8. put everything back together.

A pleasure to help.

SOURCE: forgot bios password

1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the
computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on,
and then shut it down through the operating system.
2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3. Disconnect the power cord.
4. Remove the battery pack by following these steps:
a. Turn the computer upside down with the front panel
toward you.
b. Slide and hold the battery release latch 1 to the left. (The
front edge of the battery pack disengages from the
computer.)
c. Lift the front edge of the battery pack 2 and swing it
back.
d. Remove the battery pack.
5. Remove the RTC battery from the socket on the system
board.
6. Wait approximately 5 minutes.
7. Replace the RTC battery and reassemble the computer.
8. Connect AC power to the computer. Do not reinsert any
battery packs at this time.
9. Turn on the computer.
All passwords and all CMOS settings have been cleared.

SOURCE: hp dv3 boot: no bios, blinking screen

First, remove the Battery Pack from the Notebook and reinsert it after an hour.
Also, press the F8 Key on the Keyboard while turning ON the Computer.
Next, please select "Last Known good Configuration" from the menu.
Ensure that the Booting Priority is set to HDD in the BIOS Settings and also turn OFF the Quick Boot feature. This should resolve the issue.

Pavillion P6000 won't recognize any drives

If you are trying to install Windows XP then -

The problem is that XPinstallation CD does not have a SATA driver, unless you have a SATA drive on adisk etc. and can install the driver when XP asks for a hard drive driver then,XP cannot detect the hard disk and therefore won't install XP.The FIX.Go into the BIOS anddisable the SATA drive (enable IDE emulation), this will make XP think it is aIDE/PATA hard disk. Then you can install XP normally. When Windows hasbeen installed then install all the device drivers (including the SATA driver),then shut down and boot up and got into the BIOS and enable the SATA drive.

Hp nx6110, stays in a boot-up loop

Hi, If you are sure that it's not overheating, then it could be the hard drive.
A boot up loop is an indication that the boot up sector on the hard drive is corrupt and broken. The hard drive tries to find this boot sector to boot up your computer but it can't. It keeps trying to find it again and again and again and keeps looping. Hank

I have an HP Paviion dv9008nr Entertainment -black screen at boot

Unseat and reseat the memory one stick at a time in each slot on at a time. After each reseat of the memory, turn on the laptop and see if you get video. If you still don't get video, go ahead and take out the hard drive and the dvd drive.

Then try turning on the laptop, if you still don't get video then the motherboard is bad and you'll need to get it replaced.

Computer seems to be in a loop when turned on

What you are having there is a problem with the booting up of windows. most likely a corruption. The best thing to do here is to have your computer taken to a local technician or a friend who knows about computers. Have your hard drive files recovered by connecting your hard drive to their computers. Then after that you could either try to use your windows xp cd to do a repair installation (However its not a guarantee that you will be able to recover your files with this step.) or to have a full Operating System reinstallation. Hope this helps.

Replaced my hard drive on my hp lap top and i cannot load the restore disk it is hp ze4800 i dont know how to get it load error code pxe e61

HP and Compaq Desktop PCs - Error: PXE-E61: Media Test Failure s.gif s.gif
This document pertains to HP or Compaq desktop computers with Windows XP. The following error message appears: PXE-E61: Media Test Failure This error is probably occurring because the main bootable hard drive is no longer "connected" to the computer and the next usable bootable device in the boot path is the network card. Use the following steps to resolve the error: NOTE: If the computer was recently moved or bumped, make sure the hard drive cables are firmly attached to the motherboard and the hard drive before using the steps in this document. Step 1: Remove all removable storage devices Remove connected devices, remove power, and restart the computer:
  1. Disconnect any, personal media drives, pocket media drives, USB or 1394 (Firewire) devices that are attached to the computer, especially USB thumb drives.
  2. Remove any CD and DVD discs from their drives.
  3. If the computer has a floppy disk drive, remove any floppy disks from the drive.
  4. Press and hold the Power button for 5 Seconds to turn off the computer.
  5. Disconnect the power cable to the computer.
  6. With the power cable disconnected, press the power button again for five seconds. This may reset the firmware for the hard drive to its defaults .
  7. Plug in the power cable only and turn on the computer.
  8. If the error persists, go to the next step. If the computer starts without the error, one of the removable storage volumes may be preventing the computer from starting or the hard drive was not reponding. Do not leave the removable device in the computer when shutting the computer off. You are done.
Step 2: Make sure a network device is not selected as the first boot device in BIOS The computer may be attempting to boot from the network device.
  1. Turn on the computer by pressing the power button on the PC and press the F1 key repeatedly when the first screen opens.
  2. Use the arrow keys to select the BOOT screen (from the menu at the top of the screen).
  3. Use the arrow keys to select the BOOT Device Priority (or similar).
  4. Press Enter .
  5. Read the instructions on the page to move any reference to a netwrok device to the bottom of the list. You should also move the optical drive (ODD) to the top of the list.
  6. Once the selections have been made, press F10 to Save settings and exit.
Step 3: Test the Hard Drive Test the hard drive using the SMART hard drive test:
  1. Press and hold the Power button for 5 Seconds to turn off the computer.
  2. Press the F1 key repeatedly after the computer is turned on. A BIOS setup utility should appear.
  3. After the BIOS Setup Utility is displayed, use the Down Arrow key to select the hard disk drive name and press Enter .
  4. Select SMART Extended Self-Test , press Enter , and wait for the test to complete.
  5. If the test fails, the hard drive should be replaced. If the test passes, go to the next step to update the BIOS.
Step 4: Update the BIOS Download and install the latest BIOS for your computer . If, after updating the BIOS and restarting the computer, the error goes away, you are done. If the error persists or a BIOS update is unavailable, go to the next step to recover the computer. Step 5: Recover the operating system To reinstall the Windows XP operating system, perform a system recovery (or reinstall Windows if the computer was upgraded to XP). You may need to start the computer from a set of recovery discs (or from a Windows Installation disc if Windows was upgraded to XP). For more information about how to recover the computer, refer to the HP support article Performing a System Recovery in Windows XP . Step 6: Repair the computer If the preceding steps do not resolve the error, the hard drive or BIOS may have failed and the computer should be serviced. if this service info does not work contact me.

Windows xp keeps failing

check the bios and see what the boot order is for the boot devices. Hard disk 0 should be listed after the cdrom drive. this problem you are having might occur if the hard drive is down the list in the boot order, and not checked as being a valid boot device.

Windows XP professional loop

Glad to hear you have your OS disc handy... let's try this:

Insert your XP CD and when it asks if you want to boot from the CD, press any key (ENTER) to do so. When asked, press ENTER ("To setup Windows XP now") and follow these steps...

To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press "R"
To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press "F3".
Press Enter to start the Windows Setup. DO NOT choose "To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console". You Do Not want to load the Recovery Console.
Accept the License Agreement and Windows will search for existing Windows installations.
Select the XP installation you want to repair from the list and press "R" to start the repair.
((Note: If Repair is not one of the options, END setup. After the reboot read Warning#2! ))

Setup will copy the necessary files to the hard drive and at some point the system will reboot. When this happens, you want to now allow the system to boot from the hard disk but leave the CD in the drive. So do not press any key to boot from CD when the message appears. Setup will continue as if it were doing a clean install, but your applications and settings will remain intact.

Hope that helps.
Good luck!
