I would expect that you have burnt out, or in some other way damaged, the cross-over networks inside the speakers, these consist of an inductance, (a coil), resistors, and capacitors, these need to be tested. They can easily be repaired/replaced.
Also check the Voice Coils of each speakers, with an OHM meter, they should read the respective ratings either 4 or 8 OHMS.
Have you resolved your problem?
Hello unfortunately it sounds as if the coils in both woofers are open, you have pretty much confirmed this by your direct connection however putting an ohmmeter across the terminals will tell you as well.If you have a meter the woofer should measure approx 6 ohms,if it measures 0 its bad.Another simple way to tell is with a 9 volt battery, simply connect with two wires and see if the woofer pops if not its no good.
Hello, its not uncommon for two woofers to open up at the same time they are both built exactly the same and if they both recieve excess volume or distortion (if they both didnt go) then one of the two would possibly be compromised anyway. In regards to your tweeter being tinny, thats its job the woofer also handled a majority of middle frequencies when it worked. As far as replacement thats tough i searched and the parent company to your speaker (FOCAL) only does car stereo now,its a tough search i would pursue reconing the woofer which essentialy keeps the metal frame only and a reconer rebuilds it ,new coil, new foam surround etc.. this is probably your best option..there are quite a few reputable reconers in the u.s. i know of one in south florida lakes electronics ..reputable and reasonable and no i dont work there did about 17 yrs ago very legit.

Thanks - I can do that tomorrow. Do you have any idea why this would have happened to 2 speakers at the same time? SHould the tweeter sound very tinny? Also, can I get a replacement...
OK - I'll contact Florida. Thanks for your help.
Can you recommend a replacement speaker for these?
Tried the Florida outfit and they don't recone this particular speaker. I was hoping you could recommend a replacement speaker that would provide the same performance. JM lab seems to be out of the home stereo business
