Hey, I had a similar issue of maps of USA with a GPS of a Garmin and Magellan with jump framework, at that point I searched for and they suggested me a specialized help in top took care of, they previously unraveled it and they stacked me maps of all USA. As for connecting it to the computer, you'll need the usb cable that came with it. Then you'll want to do this:

Your best bet is to contact Magellan directly. Their website is not the easiest place I've ever navigated. I did not see a specific listing for the Roadmate 2000, but when I queried them about upgrades for your unit, the response was Roadmate 2000/2200T. Manuals are available, but again nothing was noted about supporting the 2000.

As far as re-installing he maps, here's what I've found. I think this might help:
Locate the files that are loaded on the computer.Magellan Roadmate Manager example: C:\Program Files\Magellan\Magellan RoadMate Manager NA\Map\Basemaps
Copy all files. Make sure your Roadmate is connected and click on Example E:/Removable Disk and paste them with other files. It takes a few seconds to 1 minute to transfer the 25.5 mb file so don't unplug it until it is finished.
