You can install another hard drive as a Slave hard drive and install more RAM.

To upgrade your laptop, you will have to verify the capacity for upgrade of your laptop.

The Acer Travelmate comes with:

  • Intel Celeron-M 360 Processor 1.4GHz
  • 256MB DDR SDRAM -
  • 40GB Hard Drive
  • DVD/CD-RW Combo Drive - To read DVDs and CDs and write CDs
  • 15" XGA TFT Screen
  • Intel 852GM 64MB shared graphics
  • Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition

    • Based on this information, you can upgrade your memory depending on what type of memory your motherboard supports and how many empty slots for memory does your laptop have.

    The hard drive can be upgraded also depending on which hard drives does the BIOS will recognize.

    I will suggest to contact ACER and ask for the options and upgrades capacity.

    Yes you can. You can increase the memory up to 1GB. If you are going to keep the memory inside then you should buy a 512 MB memory card, making your computer run on 768 MB of memory. If not then replace it with a 1 GB memory card. Remember, this computer can only support a maximum of 1GB total memory. The price depends on the memory module. The higher it is, the higher the price will be. Go to your local computer store for the price.

    HDD capacity greater than 128GB with Acer Travelmate 2300
    ive had a look on the acer website and there is a replacement bios available , but theres no mention if it would enable large Hd support , rather than flashing your bios and potentially destroying your laptop i would purchase a external drive , you can get the enclosures for 10-20 pounds and fit a decent size HD in this

    I like to xchange my HDD 40gb on my acer 3260 travelate into 20gb HDD
    The smallest new hard drive you can buy today is approx. 80 to 100 Gb.
    You may be able to buy 2nd hand 20Gb ones but you don't know how long they will last for, it is a bit of a risk.

    250Gb hard drive for Acer travelmate 2300
    No. I have tried a 250 Gb but my 2303 wont carry it. it will only recognize up to 130Gb but I did not try it with a 120Gb internally, my 250Gb IDE -HDD will run as an external but there is a power surge warning that comes up when I connect it, however I can run a 500 Gb SATA HDD with out this happening.     Yes you can install a 20 Gb hard drive but I doubt you can buy a new one with that small capacity. The smallest capacity hard drives are approx. 80 to 100 Gb or greater.
    You most likely can buy a 2nd hand drive but you don't know its quality, it may have had a hard working life and you don't know how long it will last, but then, if is very cheap that may not be a problem.
